Howdy. Great now another pissed off member of the Big 3. I guess somebody watched the Senators last season other then us fans. Jason Spezza, who has lots of Team Canada experience, was left off the list of invitees to a Canada training camp in lovely Alberta. Alberta? Well with that news of course Dany Heatley would be ON the list of invitees. Congrats Dany, represent the Sens and our country proud! As for Spezza, I imagine he is right pissed off...Olympics in Vancouver and he isn't going. Annual top-10 NHL scorer and proven producer on the world stage and he isn't going. All this makes you scratch your head but remember Steve Yzerman among a list Canada's top hockey people decided Spezza wasn't good enough. Hard to argue. Now us Sens fans wonder if Spezza is good enough for $7M a season? Colin Jeffrey www.mvn.com/colinjeffrey's301

2010

Howdy from Ottawa. The Mayans predicted the end of the world on the date December 21st, 2012. Apparently the Earth's axis will topple and all the planets water will be splashed over everything...kind of like rotating one of those Christmas glass balls filled with water. Such prophecy can only be used for one thing...making a film. 2012 is out in 6 days and it looks horrible...

Sens sign Brodeur and Martin St.

Howdy from Ottawa. G Mike Brodeur and F Martin St. Pierre signed by Ottawa to play in the AHL this coming season. Both do good in the minors, but haven't produced in the NHL. All for now. Colin Jeffrey www.mvn.com/colinjeffrey's301

Howdy from a rainy day in Ottawa. First let's deal with reality for a moment. A blogger has suggested that the NHLPA's statement saying they are 'backing Dany Heatley till his grave' in regards to his situation in Ottawa doesn't do anything to dispell whether or not it's members are a little ticked off with Dany. The question is how many NTC's have been...

Utterly Bewildered

Howdy from a hungover Ottawa. Good show last night from the Hill. My favourite part about Canada Day is seeing so many different peoples and cultures celebrating one nation. Not totally shocked Heatley and Neil are still Sens today. Shocked on how it happened. Obviously Bryan Murray and Co. were put in a difficult situation when Heatley decided to cut and run. Obviously however it...

Sources: Heatley refuses to waive his no trade clause.

From TSN.ca: The Ottawa Senators are on the hook for a $4 million signing bonus to forward Dany Heatley. Like he did no Tuesday, the disgruntled forward declined to waive his no-movement clause to facilitate a trade to the Edmonton Oilers. For complete story, click here. We finally get some resolution.  Heatley’s refusal to go to Edmonton has really caused the Oilers [...]

Neil 'thrilled' to stay with Senators

After mulling over offers from other teams, forward Chris Neil went with his heart and signed a new four-year deal with the Senators on Canada Day (Photo by Graig Abel/NHLI via Getty ...

Bulletin: Senators and Neil agree to 4-year deal

Audio from Bryan Murray (MP3 file) and Chris Neil (MP3 file). OTTAWA – The Ottawa Senators today announced they have agreed to a four-year deal with right-winger Chris Neil. In 2008-09, his seventh season with the Senators and in the N...

Heatley vetoes again

Looks like Dany Heatley is getting his $4 million from Ottawa, and Edmonton is getting stuck again. Heatley again declined the request to waive his no-trade clause, even after personal visits from Kevin Lowe and Steve Tambellini of the Oilers’ front office. So he remains in Ottawa, $4 million richer, and on a team on which [...]

In Defense of Dany Heatley (sort of)

One thing I was struck by yesterday as speculation unfolded on various signings, is that hockey fans and journalists are often very willing to believe the worst things about hockey players, and usually without any substantial confirmation that those things are true.  The Dany Heatley drama appears to be a grand example of this. Ask nearly any fan today what he thinks of...

Bulletin: Senators sign goaltender Mike Brodeur to one-year contract

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators announced today they have signed free-agent goaltender Mike Brodeur to a one-year, two-way contract. Brodeur, 26, split last season between the American Hockey League’s Rochester Americans and East Coast Hocke...

We're Not the Jet Set

This is Glen Sather. If you're an Oiler fan, this is a day to turn back the clock and cheer like hell for "Slats." Dany Heatley's delay on giving the go-ahead on a trade that sees Edmonton loading up on a 1line L gives Sather and the Rangers a window of opportunity. As I understand it, Heatley would prefer to play in New York City. I think it's a good move for...

Happy Canada Day

Should be a good one!Burke's already lost out on the Sedins and will put the future of the Leafs in the hands of an overpaid Chris Neil. I'm hoping Burke signs him to a 5 year 2.5/yr deal. I'm thinking Sens fans would be mostly okay with keeping Heatley now and having him sit on the bench for 82 games a year for the next 6 years. Money well spent. Well, if we can get...

Senators Lose Leverage and Increase Demands

There’s a lot I don’t get about the Dany Heatley ransom demands. Like why are the Oilers so hot for a player who so obviously doesn’t want to play for them? Are they only interested because they know he’ll demand a trade in another two seasons? Do they think they can change him? And as the demand [...]
