By my count 47 players suited up for the Springfield Falcons in 2008-09. The count goes like this: 4 goaltenders, 14 defenders and 29 forwards make up the original group. The number of players who have been set free this summer is large (Mathieu Roy, Tim Sestito, Dany Sabourin, Sebastien Bisaillon, Carl Corazzini, Tyler Spurgeon, Guillaume Lefebvre, Stephane Goulet, Shane Willis, Mike Gabinet, Hans Benson) and the number of men incoming is also large (we'll get to it in a minute).Among those who will not be on the Falcons to start the year is the skinny kid in the photo (Jordan Eberle) who'll be in the WHL or playing with the Oilers this fall. Here's a list of players who are possible Falcons. This has been a frustrating "moving target" so please let me know of any errors. This post will be followed by the beginning of the "reasonable expectations" posts as we count down to August, the end of summer holidays for Oilers management and the time when they ...

Sam Gagner: Let's Not Start Sucking Each Others' Popsicles Yet
Sam Gagner has the potential to be the best post-dynasty player the Oilers have drafted. He has the best head for the game that I've seen recently on a player his age at his position. He is an absolutely sublime playmaker and I can't help but feel a little thrill of excitement run up my spine when I think about where he could be in five years' time. But next year?Lately...
2008 Oilers Draft Review: #103, D Johan Motin
The Dustin Penner offer sheet drained the Oilers of their own first-round pick, their second-round pick, and their third-round pick this year. As a result, after the Eberle selection the Oilers got to sit around and presumably play some cards while Lowe tried to convince Prendergast that they were going to draft a Latvian player named Seymour Butz. I mean, I'm sure they made...
2008 Oilers Draft Review (aka: A POST?!?): #22, RW Jordan Eberle
So it's almost been a calendar year since I last posted to the South Smythian Rolo-Gator. Well, what of it? It's never too late to put something up there, and the draft is the perfect time on so many levels. Frankly, I love the draft. Aside from the deadline or any Stanley Cup finals with the Oilers in it, it is about my favourite time of the hockey season. The worst teams...
Stevey Stevey Can't-Believe-He
So. The Oilers sacked Kevin Lowe today.Well, they bumped him upstairs to "President of Hockey Operations for Rexall Sports". Yes, Lowe's still in the organisation. Yes, Lowe was careful to emphasise that he was still in charge, dammit, and that new ashen-faced supremo Steve Tambellini answers to him.But look at it this way. Who would you say ran the Edmonton Oilers...
Hey Steve: Get on the Stick!
The hiring of Steve Tambellini to run the Edmonton Oilers represented a new day. He had no connections to the boys on the bus, he did have a real resume that included most of the things we associate with the general manager's job and he seemed (unlike Kevin Lowe) able to do business without making it personal. These are all good things.Tambellini's track record has been solid...
