I believe the trouble with the Edmonton Oilers has to do with a rookie. No, not Jeff Deslauriers or recent rookies Andrew Cogliano, Sam Gagner or even Liam Reddox. It's easy to forget that Daryl Katz is new to the job of being an NHL owner. I'm not going to be critical of him, hell the guy writes the cheques and hasn't threatened us with the hammer that is Oklahoma City one time.Katz is a fan, and it's my belief this may be getting in the way of the hockey men and getting business done. The recent Dany Heatley chase is the latest example, but we saw it a year ago with Marian Hossa too. We've seen this many times in sports, a successful business man takes over his favorite toy (in this case, the Oilers) and wants to play a little. Hell, I would. I'd have Marc-freaking Pouliot centering the PP unit and playing the soft parade with Hemsky and Penner. Poor Horcoff would be on the checking line with Pisani and my list of men headed out of town would include Ladislav...

Relentless Incompetence
Nikolai Khabibulin introduces himself to the media. The clip on the Oilers site includes this:
Edmonton Oilers made such a big commitment. There weren’t too many opportunities with such a long term out there. It happened that the Oilers, when they made a commitment, we looked at it.
For some reason, the clip of [...]
NHL free agency: Dany Heatley declines to waive no-trade clause for Edmonton Oilers before midnight deadline
Dany Heatley is now $4-million richer but he's still with the Ottawa Senators.
A Loser Move for a Loser Franchise
For obvious reasons, I want good things to happen to Nikolai Khabibulin. With that said, the contrast between Alberta’s two hockey franchises has rarely been sharper than it is today. While Calgary is having a press conference to announce that they’ve added yet another elite player in the prime of his career, the [...]
Heatley to EDM for Penner, Cogliano and Smid...maybe
Howdy from Ottawa. Huge 11th hour news for the Ottawa Senators organization. The deal on the table is below, yet Dany Heatley has not waived his no-movement clause to go to Edmonton. Heatley's agent J.P Barry believe's the $4 mil. bonus deadline was 11:59pm Wednesday while the Sens believe it was 11:59pm Tuesday. If Heatley doesn't waive his clause to go to EDM, the New...
