One year ago at this time, the Flyers planned for top prospect Claude Giroux to be a member of the club's opening night roster. The lineup spot was Giroux's to lose. Unfortunately, the rookie proceeded to do just that by playing a listless preseason that head coach John Stevens charitably described as "just OK."

Fox Sports Carolinas announced today that 30 of the Hurricanes' 65 televised games this season will be produced and distributed in high definition. That's twice as many as in the 2008-2009 season.
The first high-definition telecast will be the Oct. 2 season-opener against the Philadelphia Flyers. Fox Sports Carolinas will show four or five games each full month of the regular season...
