Woo!
What a game at the Wachovia Center today. Despite being outshot heavily by the visiting Hurricanes, the Flyers summarily dispatched them, 6-1. Very entertaining tilt, with 3+ fights (depending on what all you count), and the Flyers just kept finding the net.
Ray Emery was up to almost every shot, and Braydon Coburn made some big strides toward regaining his role as a dangerous defenseman, scoring twice in 90 seconds. Scott Hartnell scored, assisted on two goals, and came *this close* to earning the esteemed Gordie Howe Hat Trick, narrowly missing being assessed a fighting major despite dropping the gloves. I say the refs robbed him of that glory.
The new kid, David Laliberte, scored a goal in his first NHL game and earned an assist. JVR was fantastic out there as well. Mattyboy Carle ripped a wraparound goal (rarity for a d-man), notching his 100th NHL point. Paired with a dominant partner in Chris Pronger, Carle is clearly not a submissive out there. Michael Leigton, on the other hand...
Does anyone miss Joni Pitkanen? His hype's never been realized, and he was just flat out awful for the Canes today. We still respect Rod Brind'Amour, but he was dreadful too, on the ice for four of the Flyers goals.
The Sixers and Flyers opened up the big Philly sports weekend. Now it's up to the Phillies in the main event tonight at Citizens Bank Park.

Jones Was In A Tough Position With Philadelphia
Rich Hammond of Inside The Kings had a chance to chat with Randy Jones who was claimed on waivers from the Flyers yesterday,
Question: It seemed like you were stuck, in a way, with the Flyers’ roster and salary-cap issues. Did that get frustrating? Did it almost feel like it was out of your control?

TONIGHT'S GAME WHO: Tampa Bay at Philadelphia Flyers
Flyers 6, Canes 1
Michael Leighton made his first start of the season Saturday for the Carolina Hurricanes, which seemed a curious move.
Leighton was up into the wee hours of Friday morning as his wife, Jennifer, gave birth to a baby daughter. There was little rest time and even less preparation time for the Canes' backup goaltender.
Leighton, perhaps understandably, wasn't very sharp...

"It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia."
Not in FLyerdom. Especially, not right now.
