Blooper: Joe Thornton has puck on his what?

Usually our broadcast bloopers involve a typo or an error in a graphic during an NHL game. This time we switch things up, highlighting an incredible slip of the tongue during Comcast SportsNet's coverage of the Sharks and Avalanche on Feb. 26.  Where exactly did Joe Thornton have the puck?  To be fair, the sentence blurs a bit together here. Clearly, the intended word...

Joe Thornton has the puck on his... what?

This is why it's always important for announcers to enunciate words.  At a recent Sharks-Avalanche game, just listen to how Sharks analyst Drew Remenda describes this replay involving Joe Thornton.  Because "his stick" can blend together and actually sound like something else.  Something else that would be pretty disturbing to see on the ice! Sharks GM Doug Wilson wants team to shoot more

Let’s face it. The Sharks stink right now. They went 2-6-4 in February thanks to some pretty atrocious goal-scoring numbers and have fallen completely out of a playoff spot. Something obviously needs to change if this team wants any chance at playing in the postseason. So what needs to change? The coach? Player? Pregame menu? According the Sharks GM Doug Wilson, it’s how the...

Red Wings-Sharks Preview

The San Jose Sharks may be relieved to end February, but they'd like to do it in positive fashion. Taking the ice at home against the struggling Detroit Red Wings should help. The Sharks go for back-to-back wins for the first time this month on Thursday night when they attempt to continue their home success against the Red Wings. San Jose (9-6-3) has gone 2-6-3 this month...

Broadcast Blooper: “Joe Thornton has the puck on his d**k”

On February 26th, during the San Jose Sharks-Colorado Avalanche game Comcast SportsNet’s broadcaster had a bit of a slip of the tongue.  Clearly he meant to say “his stick,” but it blended together a little bit more than he would have liked and it came out “his d*ck.”  I gotta say, it would be much harder to play hockey that way. Red Wings beat Sharks 2-1 in shootout

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- Damen Brunner scored the lone goal in the shootout and Jonas Gustavsson stopped all three shots in his first start of the season to lead the Detroit Red Wings to their third win in four games, 2-1 over the struggling San Jose Sharks on Thursday night. Patrick Eaves scored the equalizer midway through the third period and Gustavsson made 25 saves to get his...

Predators-Sharks Preview

Scoreboard operators got a bit of a break during the first two meetings between the Nashville Predators and San Jose Sharks, and it doesn't appear things will change this time around at the rate they've put pucks in the net recently. Two of the NHL's lowest-scoring teams meet as visiting Nashville seeks a third straight win over San Jose on Saturday night. The Predators...

Red Wings’ Wins Hit Double-Digits, 2-1 Over Sharks

The Red Wings hold out for a much needed 2 – 1 shootout victory over the San Jose Sharks. A very, very defensive game at both ends of the ice made this almost the lowest of low scoring games. The Red Wings’ only power play of the period was not converted on thanks [...]

Too Much D in the D?

With the eventual return of Colaiacovo Detroit will have 9 NHL defenseman on the roster. The obvious yet unpopular 1st move made would be to send Lashoff down to GR. That leaves 8 defenseman left. Kindl and Huskins could sit eating up roster space in the press box, but it may not be that simple. Lashoff has proven too valuable to the Red Wings to honestly send him down while claiming...
