It was a great night to be a Nashville Predator fan. On a rainy Monday night, 1,100 faithful Predator fans and supporters from around the area got together at Bridgestone Arena for Petey’s Preds Party: a fun-filled gala dinner to support the Peterson Foundation for Parkinson’s and the Nashville Predators Foundation.

The night got started in grand form by The Predatorial having it’s own table in the midst of supporting casts such as Ajax Turner and Lipman Brothers (two of the sponsors of the event). While walking around taking in the sights and sounds of the arena floor, I stumbled upon one of the largest sets of memorabilia and auction items I’ve seen at any fundraising event. Signed jerseys, pennants, game-used sticks and lithographs lined the outer section of the half-boards. The opposite side had trips, golf foursome packages and a very unique opportunity to have a complete Kentucky Derby VIP experience with the added kicker of having a race named in honor of you on Derby day.

Bridgestone Golf was there with a swing tracker to match you up with your appropriate golf ball and there were many more luxurious items on which to bid or buy raffle tickets. The best in show for this writer was the custom Olhausen Predators pool table valued at over $3,800 and the bidding got fierce early.

Onto the dinner provided by the fine folks at Levy’s who do the majority of the catering for the suite level at Bridgestone Arena. Sufficed to say the Crawfish Gumbo was mighty nice. From there it was an awe-inspiring night with a great video about the DBS (deep brain stimulation) procedure for which Coach Brent Peterson is now recovering amazingly from and gaining the full use of his extremities in ways thought impossible before the surgery.

An emotional Peterson expressed his gratitude for all those in attendance and encouraged everyone to give what they can to help find new medicines and procedures leading to a cure for Parkinson’s; a disease that Peterson has been fighting for over ten years and caused his early retirement from the game he loved to coach.

Kris and I had an amazing time talking with players (Fisher, Legwand, Hornqvist), coaches (Trotz, Horachek, Korn, Peterson) and on-air personalities namely Pierre MacGuire from NBC Sports. Lindy Ruff, head coach of the Buffalo Sabres and longest tenured head coach currently in the NHL was also on hand to share in Coach Peterson’s triumphant night.

It was nice to get to see some of the hockey-related people all in the same room together supporting a great cause tonight. It truly puts things into perspective amidst the CBA negotiations and the lockout that there are many more important issues that people face right in your backyard on a daily basis.
