Found May 06, 2012 on Buzz On Broad:

The Flyers are now down 2-1 in the series, and tonight is a must win situation for the Flyers.  Going into this series, Flyers fans were very positive about the Devils, stating that if we play our game, we have a striaght route to the cup. Wells Flyers fans, they aren't playing their game...yet.

With the overtime loss on Tuesday, I think the Flyers received the Devils message. Here are a few things to look for tonight:

  • Claude Giroux- G has been shutdown all series, today he will, and kind of has to produce.
  • Scott Hartnell- Giroux's linemate, like Claude has been shutdown this round.  Hartsy needs to play a physical game early on and really get under New Jersey's skin.  The Flyers need their leading scorer, I think we get him tonight.
  • Zach Parise- Parise has certainly elavated his game this series, as it seems like he is EVERYWHERE. Parise is using his speed to win the race to the puck almost every time.
  • Bryzgalov- Plain and simple, if the Flyers want to come back in this series and become a real threat for the Cup, we need the Bryz-ness.
  • Powerplay- The Flyers PP has been bad lately, especially in overtime on Thursday.  The key reason for the Flyers round one PP success, was the amount of shots they threw at Marc-Andre Fluery.  If the Flyers eliminate the "perfect" play, and just throw pucks on net, they will even up this series.

Tonight's game 4 is on at 7:30pm on the NBC Sports Network.

Claude Giroux's suspension a blow to Flyers playoff hopes

There's never a good time for a headshot to happen on the ice, and there's never a good reason for it. The Philadelphia Flyers found that out the hard way as their top playoff scorer Claude Giroux has been suspended for an illegal hit to the head in last night's loss to the New Jersey Devils. His shoulder made contact with Danius Zubrus' head here on this hit: ...

Yet another article in which Zach Parise is eyed closely by various teams, including Detroit

Sigh. Whether New Jersey Devils captain Zach Parise will hit the open market as a free agent this summer is up for debate, but what is not is the fact that the NHL’s press corps is even more excited about the prospect of Parise signing with a team other than the Devils than the teams that would happily line up with Brinks trucks in tow to court Parise’s services already are....

Zach Parise goal against the Flyers in game three

This is the reason former Fighting Sioux forward Zach Parise is going to make a lot of money on the free agency market during this summer.  I predict that the future Wild forward is probably going to be making somewhere in the 7-10 million dollar a year range. The Devils star Parise scored this beautiful goal in last night's game against the Philadelphia Flyers. Parise...

Where Have You Gone, Claude Giroux?

13 days ago, Claude Giroux sent a statement to the hockey world in Game 6 of the Flyers' opening round series with their hated in-state rivals from Pittsburgh. Giroux, who asked head coach Peter Laviolette to start the game and then told Danny Briere to "watch this" seconds before faceoff, laid out Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby and fired a shot past Marc-Andre...

Giroux throws a high hit on Zubrus

Claude Giroux of the Philadelphia Flyers goes headhunting against the New Jersey Devils. Giroux was arguing about a call he did not get with the referees, he then took his frustrations out on Danius Zubrus’ head. The Devils ended up winning the game 4-2. Does the hit warrant a fine or even a suspension from NHL senior vice president for player safety Brendan Shanahan.

Giroux faces hearing with Dept. of Player Safety Philadelphia Flyers star forward Claude Giroux has a hearing with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety this morning and I believe that Giroux deserves to have a one game ban for his head shot on Dainius Zubrus at the 19:56 mark of the second period in last night’s Eastern Conference Semifinal game against the New Jersey Devils. Zubrus was stunned by the...

More gutless: Sacha Treille or Claude Giroux?

Sacha Treille of France on Roman Starchenko of Kazakhstan during the first game of the 2012 IIHF World Championship. The cheap elbow to the head made worse by the gutless Treille incredulously... Full story at Bob's Blitz ~

NHL Suspends Claude Giroux for one game

The NHL Department of Player Safety has finally gotten it right, they have finally suspended a "star" player for committing a dirty hit to the head. I know that there are many Philadelphia Flyers fans that are upset with Shanahan's ruling, I don't blame them because Brendan Shanahan has been very inconsistent, but the fact remains that...

Dangers of Twitter: Flyers broadcaster Chris Therien makes unfortunate Penn State joke

It is unfortunate what allegedly happened to the victims of former Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky. It is also unfortunate to see a some use Sandusky as a punch-line. It can be even more upsetting to see a professional broadcaster use it when arguing with fans on Twitter. Enter Philadelphia Flyers broadcaster Chris Therien, a former NHL player and now the radio color analyst...

Flyers Claude Giroux suspended for Game 5

Philadelphia Flyers forward Claude Giroux was suspended on Monday by the NHL for his illegal check to the head on New Jersey center Dainius Zubrus in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.   Giroux will miss Game 5 on Tuesday at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. The Flyers will have to win Game 5 without their leading scorer to remain in the playoffs as the deficit is...

Claude Giroux Suspended One Game for Hit on Dainius Zubrus

Claude Giroux, star forward for the Philadelphia Flyers and the leading scorer in this year’s NHL playoffs, has been suspended one game for hitting New Jersey Devils forward Dainius Zubrus in the head. The incident occurred during last night’s Game 4 of the Flyers/Devils Eastern Conference semifinal playoff series. Giroux was given an illegal check to the head penalty during...

So much for that playoff savior thing

The hero folk tale was supposed to begin at the end of Game 5 in the first-round playoff series between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers. After falling behind three games to none, Pittsburgh had rallied to win Game 4 by a final of 10-3, and held on to squeak out a 3-2 victory in Game 5. Philadelphia was losing all the momentum it had built, and Flyers star Claude...

Claude Giroux hit on Dainius Zubrus

Here is the latest hit in the NHL that should receive some scrutiny - and the player in question deserves to  miss a game or two because of a suspension - or at least receive a fine. That being said, I would be very surprised if there is a suspension because Claude Giroux is considered an up and coming star players and Brendan Shanahan and the Department of Player Safety doesn...

Flyers Face Elimination; Trail Devils 3-1

In order to stage any kind of comeback, you have to play with emotion in the NHL. The Flyers trail the New Jersey Devils in the Eastern Conference Semifinals 3 games to 1, and they have yet to play with any emotional intensity in this series. The Flyers have been flat all series since Danny Briere scored an overtime game winner in the first game 1 of this series. No matter what has...

Neither Rhyme Nor Reason

Brendan Shanahan has a tough job. There's little question about it. There's no sarcasm intended there; it's a job most certainly wouldn't want but plenty say they can handle. The NHL's Department of Player Safety is existing in some semblance of a vacuum during the postseason, namely with the hits from this past weekend's Eastern Conference semifinal games...
