Found September 13, 2013 on Kukla's Korner:
from Scott Burnside of ESPN, It wasn't until a couple of weeks ago that the feeling of finality set in for Vincent Lecavalier. He had been home in the Montreal area for the summer when he found out that the Tampa Bay Lightning -- the only NHL team Lecavalier had ever known and the team he helped put on the map both locally and nationally -- bought him out of the final seven years of his monster 11-year contract. So the impact wasn't quite as dramatic as if he'd been traded midseason or something of that nature. The Lightning sent him his equipment so he didn't have to return to the St. Pete Times Forum and confront the many memories he created there. There was, in fact, a bit of a disconnect from the enormity of the situation. But when he returned to his house in Tampa several weeks ago, it truly sunk in that the page had been turned both for him and the Lightning. continued

Mason, Emery begin battle for Flyers' top spot

Steve Mason's goalie helmet looks like a prop straight out of ''The Walking Dead.'' His airbrushed gear includes American icons Ben Franklin, Betsy Ross and George Washington reimagined as zombies. Yes, Franklin is even, naturally, holding a skeleton key on the eye-popping design. The art seems fitting since the Flyers were a dead team walking last season -...

Pronger returns, but not the way he wants

It was only a couple weeks ago that injured defenseman Chris Pronger was last on the ice. He wasn’t playing. He was just skating with his two sons and his daughter. For a guy who’s a sure-fire Hall of Famer it didn’t go well. “Moving in a straight line slowly was OK” Pronger said. “You start turning and spinning and things like that and you get lightheaded and dizzy...

Gagne Feels Betrayed by Flyers

Earlier this week, Flyers GM Paul Holmgren stated that Philadelphia would not be seeking to re-sign free agent veteran Simon Gagne. Gagne has now responded, these quotes coming via simongagne.com. “All summer, the Philadelphia Flyers kept hinting that they wanted to offer me a new contract and I even told Robert Sauvé, my agent, not to negotiate with other teams. We trusted them...

Flyers Notes on Read, Gagne, Bourdon, and Talbot

Matt Read said his agent and the Flyers are discussing a contract extension. Read, who signed a 3-year deal in 2011, will be an unrestricted free agent following the 2013-14 season. Simon Gagne is furious at the Flyers – in particular GM Paul Holmgren – after Holmgren announced the team will not re-sign the veteran. Gagne was apparently banking on a return to Philadelphia, and...

The Flying Dead: A look at Mason’s Mask

Put down your torches and pitchforks, it’s time to talk about Steve Mason’s new mask. Let me say that, from my 17 years of experience with graphic and web design, I know everyone has their own opinions of what looks good. Today, I am taking a look at Mason’s new mask and pointing out what works and what doesn’t from a personal viewpoint. Philadelphia, more so than most NHL...

Pronger Considered A Player, Can He Also Be A Scout?

from Tim Panaccio of CSNPhilly, Chris Pronger walks a fine line between working for the Flyers in a scouting capacity and sitting in on meetings with management, all the while being a dues-paying member of the NHLPA. Such is the life of a former player, struck down by post-concussion syndrome, and living between two worlds -- permanently disabled player and club scouting...

Holland On Signing Cleary

from Ansar Khan of Mlive, “We think we’re a better team with Clears,'' Holland said. “He’s a versatile on the wing, he’s good in the locker room. In the end, he flew up (Wednesday) to meet with (coach Mike Babcock) and I at the airport and his message was he wanted to be a Red Wing and he wanted to work with us. “He hopes to play until he's 38, 39...
