Other teams that face the Coyotes should be very concerned right now.
They are winning and they are playing with a bit of a snarl.
They are righting the wrongs that have been inflicted upon them by others and by themselves.
Since December 23 in that Pennsylvania city that is not Philadelphia, they have posted a 8-4-2 record, with a unbeaten streak in regulation standing at eight games. They are also on a four-game winning streak and have outscored their opponents 14-9.
They have made some roster moves which sent Nolan Yonkman back to San Antonio due to his hesitation of stepping up for his teammates in the December 23 debacle, and that caused Taylor Pyatt to miss time with his injury after that altercation with what’s-his-name, England? Petr Prucha has been dealt to the KHL, and Wojtek Wolski whined about a trade, general manager Don Maloney granted it, and we gained Michal Rozsival.
The Prucha/Wolski transactions took place January 10. The Coyotes have collected eight points within that span and have created a “positive” culture within the dressing room.
Coincidence? No such thing.
The last two games saw Charlie Brown from the Hamilton Fig Leaves knock Ed Jovanovksi into next week with an ugly blindside hit. After the referees “missing” that call, the Coyotes answered and started running that team down. With Paul Bissonnette sitting, they didn’t really have the muscle to do so, and that might have lost the war. Instead, they collected themselves and sent the Hamilton boys back to whence they came with an embarrassing 5-1 shellacking.
Then last night, after some chirping and some cross checking by Katy Perry, Yandle got something back and delivered a slash of his own. She was none to pleased and sang, “He Slashed Me and I Hate It!” There is a reason why that Datsun guy beat up Katy earlier this season. Katy is a punk and looks like he is a whiner too. Figures.
The exegesis of the recent success of the Coyotes goes straight to team chemistry. With the moves they made, they just got better. Everybody is scoring, everybody is sticking up for each other, and the team is playing well right now.
Opposing teams had better take notice. Wait, don’t do that. Enjoy our weather instead, bring your dads/moms on those trips, play some golf.
The Coyotes aren’t really that good.
