Nick Leddy’s overtime goal gave Chicago a 2-1 win over arch-rival Detroit yesterday and has the Blackhawks off to a franchise-best 6-0 start. While Chicago is still perfect let’s check out the rest of Sunday’s action. Washington got its first win of the season, knocking off Buffalo 3-2. Alex Ovechkin got the eventual game-winner on a third-period power play goal, his first of the season. Joel Ward had a goal and an assist in the win. All three of Pittsburgh’s shooters scored in the shootout and Penguins slipped past the Senators 2-1. James Neal had the long Penguin goal with Evgeni Malkin picking up the assist. Those two plus Sidney Crosby all beat Ottawa goaltender Craig Anderson in the shootout Andrei Markov’s power-play goal with 38 seconds left in overtime gave Montreal a 4-3 win over New Jersey. The Devils scored twice in the third period to force the overtime. Tampa improved to 4-1 on the season when they grounded the Flyers 5-1. Martin St. Louis led the way with a four-assist game for the Lightning. St. Louis (the city) also scored a game-winner in overtime on Sunday and they slipped by Minnesota 5-4. Vladimir Sobotka’s goal lifted the Blues to their fifth win in six games to start the season. It also made Zach Parise’s (2G, A) three-point day go for naught. Evander Kane (and his funky haircut) scored the overtime winner as the Jets edged the Islanders 5-4 yesterday. Nine different players scored in this game. Finally, San Jose kept on rolling and they sunk the Canucks 4-1. Yes, there was a two-goal scorer for the Sharks but it was Joe Pavelski. Patrick Marleau was held to just one goal and has a league-high nine scores this season. Multiple Goal Scorers Parise-MIN, Pavelski-SJ Stat of the Night-Alex the Mediocre Ovechkin has just 13 shots on goal through five games. He’s also getting the same amount of ice time (23:07 per game) as he did during the 2007-2008 campaign. That season, he potted 65 goals and 47 assists for a career-high 112 points. Perhaps keeping his ice time high will help the points come easier for Ovechkin in the other 43 games of the season. Stat of the Night II-There’s A First Time For Everything In Sunday’s action there were 21 different players who scored their first goal of the season. Three Stars of the Night 1. St. Louis  Four assists on five goals. 2. Marleau  League-leading 9th goal of the season. 3. Parise Three points but no win. Monday’s Games (all times ET) Boston at Carolina 7pm The Bruins are 3-0-1 and are one of two undefeated teams in the Eastern Conference. The Rangers are the other one with an identical record. Dallas at Columbus 7pm How will adding Jamie Benn back into the mix benefit Dallas? Nashville at Phoenix 9pm Rematch of the Western Conference Semifinals from last season, won by Phoenix. Colorado at Edmonton 930pm A Northwest Division game between a pair of 2-2 teams. Vancouver at Los Angeles 1030pm This is LA’s second home game of the season.
