Six games went down on Sunday and we had a good amount of offense and our first 1-0 game of the season.  Thomas Vanek was Sunday’s star with a five-point game for Buffalo. Without delay, let’s jump right into the action. Buffalo went 3-of-6 on the power play to knock off Philadelphia 5-2.  Vanek had a hand in all five goals as he scored two and setup the other three. The Sabres scored three times in the last five minutes of the game to break open a 2-2 tie. Patrick Marleau scored a pair of second-period goals to lead San Jose to a 4-1 win at Calgary. Antti Niemi pushed aside 31 of 32 Calgary shots for his first win. James Neal scored twice and Evgeni Malkin added three assists as Pittsburgh doubled up the Rangers 6-3. New York goaltender Henrik Lundquist gave up four goals on 18 shots and got yanked for Martin Biron in the middle of the game. Minnesota goaltender Josh Harding turned aside all 24 Dallas shots as the Wild blanked the Stars 1-0. Zach Parise’s first-period goal was enough for the Wild in their season opener. Edmonton knocked off Vancouver 3-2 in a shootout to keep the Canucks winless. Ales Hemsky scored in regulation and potted the winner in the shootout. Marian Hossa scored twice in Chicago’s 6-4 win at Phoenix. Hossa has now opened the season with back-to-back two goal games and the ‘Hawks improved to 2-0 with both wins on the road. Chicago has scored 11 times  in its first two games and could be a force to be reckoned with if their offensive outburst can be sustained. Multiple Goal Scorers (all are two-goal games unless noted) Neal-PIT; Hossa-CHI; Bolland-CHI; Vanek-BUF; Marleau-SJ; Stat of the Night Mike Smith of Phoenix and the Rangers’ Lundqvist, two of the highest drafted goalies in fantasy, have surrendered a combined 17 goals in their teams’ first two games. The Rangers and Coyotes are both 0-2. Three Stars of the Night 1. Vanek (RW) Buffalo 2. Harding (G) Minnesota 3. Neal (LW) Pittsburgh Monday’s Schedule (all times ET) Winnipeg at Boston 1pm Tampa Bay at NY Islanders 1pm St. Louis at Nashville 6pm Buffalo at Toronto 7pm Florida at Ottawa 730pm Detroit at Columbus 730pm Anaheim at Calgary 9pm Note the early start time due to afternoon games on Martin Luther King Jr. Day tomorrow when setting your lineups or picking up free agents.
