We’re not sure if the ice in Uniondale is made with holy water but John Tavares and Matt Moulson each had four-point nights in a 5-1 exorcism by the Islanders over the Devils. Tavares scored two goals in 1:23 at the tail end of the second period to get Islanders up 2-0 before Moulson struck on the power play at 19:04 for a 3-0 lead. Tavares finished off his hat trick on the power play at 14:45 of the third and Michael Grabner’s empty-netter closed the scoring. SPIN: Well, well, well. The Islanders are a team on the rise as of late. They’ve won a couple in a row and Tavares has a four-game goal streak. Moulson looks to be a sharp player as well and should be started all the time. Evgeni Nabokov is sitting at .500 now and might be worth mentioning as a goaltender to plug into your lineup if the offense can stay intact in front of him. He stopped 30 of 31 shots in the win.  The Islanders at 6-7-1 aren’t the most wonderful team in the league but it goes to show that even the mediocre te...

John Tavares is Doing His Best To Make the Islanders Relevant

I’ve written eight straight pieces about the NBA.  Clearly, I need to switch things up a bit. So let’s talk about the NHL.  The Devils are not quite New York but as New Jersey’s lone professional team, they are playing some of the best hockey in the entire league and find themselves second in the Eastern Conference. Many think the time is now for the Rangers who started off...

Rumor: Charles Wang looking to sell the Islanders

According to a story seen in the New York Post, New York Islanders owner Charles Wang is looking to sell the team. Sources have apparently told the NY Post that Wang has been in talks with an investment bank in Manhattan (The Raine Group) in regards to selling the team.  The Islanders have denied the rumor, but this is certainly a topic worth discussing.  Like with any...

Islanders for sale?

According to the New York Post's Josh Kosman, the New York Islanders may finally be facing the one personnel move that may free them from their status as professional cellar dwelers: it appears that Charles Wang may very well be ready to finally divest his interest in the dysfunctional team: The New York Islanders appear to have started a new effort to find a buyer, The...

MSG calls out the Phillie Phanatic

During Monday's Flyers-Islanders game at Nassau Coliseum, MSG announcer Howie Rose called the Phillie Phanatic a "washed-up, overrated hack" as the camera showed Mr. Met hugging a fan during the first intermission. Rose also mentioned that Mr. Met was "America's favorite mascot according to a national poll", leading to his slander of the Phanatic. ...

Dial 9 for McColgan

Shane McColgan (Steve Hiscock) A mostly quiet Saturday night for the New York Ranger and New York Islander prospects led to a mixed bag of results. One result turned out to be a really pleasant surprise as the Saskatoon Blades pulled off an impressive rally to win. First Star Shane McColgan Saskatoon Blades Friday evening it was a fight that Shane McColgan (NYR 2011 5th) got...

Todd Cordell: Kovalchuk Picks Up His 800th Career Point in 5-1 Loss to Islanders

The New Jersey Devils traveled to Long Island Saturday and started Johan Hedberg in hopes of picking up wins on consecutive nights over divisional opponents. Their hope didn't come to fruition, though, as the New York Islanders, lead by John Tavares and Matt Moulson, defended home ice and picked up a decisive 5-1 win over the Devils. Game Notes - Though Hedberg allowed...

Dee Karl: Preparing for the Flyers

Matt Moulson: when you win it seems you get so much more credit than you deserve and when you lose you probably get reprimanded more than you deserve, so it goes both ways.” Moulson should hold onto those words for tomorrow’s afternoon tilt against the Flyers. Historically the Isles do not fare well against the Flyers, but that could possibly change tomorrow. The...

Weingold’s Wrap up of the Week
