Tim Thomas didn’t want to speak prior to the game Thursday presumably to stay focused on the task at hand of playing his former teammates with the Bruins. Though Thomas didn’t end up reaching his goal of beating his old team in a 3-2 loss when a Reilly Smith shot squirted through his leg pads with 59 seconds remaining in the third period the 39-year-old still managed to acquit himself well while making 37 saves in the 3-2 loss. It was a mixed bag for the two-time Vezina Trophy winner and Conn Smythe recipient to be sure. He wasn’t great in the first period while letting up a goals to Daniel Paille and Dougie Hamilton and the Smith game-winner squirting through Thomas’ five hole is never a good look for a goalie. Still in between Thomas was brilliant while making the bulk of his saves: his leg-pad stop on a Jarome Iginla partial breakaway in the third period while cutting through the heart of Florida’s defense was vintage Timmy. Fortunately for the Bruins the creaky netminder the...

Reilly Smith Ruins The Return of Tim Thomas

For the first 59 minutes of Thursday night's game between the Boston Bruins and the Florida Panthers, the story was how great Tim Thomas was playing against the team he won a Stanley Cup with in 2011.  Then Reilly Smith stole the spotlight and the win. Smith scored with 59 seconds left in the third period to break a 2-2 tie and give the Bruins a much needed two points in the...

Boston Bruins Carl Soderberg cleared to play

Through the first seven games of the season, head coach Claude Julien has had twelve available forwards. Going into tonight’s matchup against the Tampa Bay Lightning, the team will have thirteen available forwards. Carl Soderberg has been cleared to play, making the decision for Coach Julien a more difficult task. Julien told reporters at the pre-game skate this morning, ...

David Krejci Punches in Early Goal Against Lightning, Whole Team Contributes to Tally (Video)

The Bruins didn’t waste any time on Saturday night as they got on the board early against the Lightning. Tuukka Rask started the scoring opportunity with a toe save, deflecting the shot to the wing. Milan Lucic took over from there, carrying the puck up the ice before dropping it off to David Krejci who recorded the tally just a minute and a half into the game. Check out the early...

Berkshire Bank Rewind: Puck Movement Through Center Ice Leads to Bruins’ First Goal of Game (Video)

The Bruins are putting on an absolute clinic in Tampa Bay. The B’s didn’t just jump out of the gates, they sprinted out of the gates, and they haven’t looked back since. In the Berkshire Bank Rewind, we look back at the first goal of the game that came within the first two minutes of the first period. Starting all the way at their own end with a toe save by Tuukka Rask, Boston...

Hamilton makes a splash in return to D rotation

Dougie Hamilton certainly knew how to respond when he climbed back into the Bruins lineup. At the mercy of the Bruins coaching staff attempting to rotate seven healthy defensemen all capable of playing at a high level the 20-year-old had been scratched in two straight games leading into Thursday night’s game against the Florida Panthers. Claude Julien inserted Hamilton back into...

Dougie Hamilton Scores His First Goal of Season as Bruins Defeat Panthers 3-2 (Video)

Dougie Hamilton scored his first goal of the season on Thursday night as the Boston Bruins defeated the Florida Panthers 3-2. The 20-year-old defenseman blasted a powerful shot from just inside the blue line that beat former Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas, which gave Boston a 2-0 lead at the time. Zdeno Chara provided a great screen in front of Thomas at the top of the crease. Watch...

Top NHL Teams Battle On Ice

The Pittsburgh Penguins host the Boston Bruins in this week's featured National Hockey League game of the week. This game is a rematch of last year's Eastern Conference Finals series, which Boston won, and these are still two of the best teams in the NHL. Boston returns the core of a team that has made the Stanley Cup finals two of the last three years. But a game six loss...

3 Keys to a Better B's Offense

A lot has been made of Boston's slow start to the season offensively, and some fans are starting to freak out. Expectations were high, and many of the Bruins faithful were probably a bit overly optimistic in expecting this team to put up huge numbers from the get-go. I am here to tell you to just be patient and relax. I mean at least we aren't the Flyers, am I right? There...

Sunset in Sunrise. BRUINS WIN!

Man, the Bruins almost blew that one huh. Apparently if teams want a shot at beating Boston, the only thing you need to do is spot them a 2 goal lead at some point because they're sure to blow it and fight for their lives. It is inevitably bound to happen. I mean, whenever Boston takes a two goal lead, I have to tweet this out:  THE DREADED 2 GOAL LEAD — PezDOY©...

Berkshire Bank Rewind: Daniel Paille Protects the Puck and Scores on Tim Thomas (Video)

The Boston Bruins opened up a 1-0 lead in the first period of Thursday’s game against the Florida Panthers with great awareness from defenseman Dennis Seidenberg and a strong move to the net by Daniel Paille. As Seidenberg skates through the neutral zone, he notices that Panthers defenseman Erik Gudbranson doesn’t have his stick in the right position, so he makes a pinpoint pass...

Claude Julien Says Bruins Have ‘Turned the Page’ on Tim Thomas, Team Focused on WInning Road Trip (Video)

With Tim Thomas officially the starter between the pipes for the Florida Panthers on Thursday, the Bruins will get a chance to go against a former teammate that they know well. Don’t expect a mushy reunion, though, because the B’s are treating the game like business as usual. Head coach Claude Julien said that his squad has “turned the page” on the Thomas saga, and is focused...

Tim Thomas Finds New Way to Bail Out Bruins in First Meeting Against Former Team

There were many times during his time with the Bruins that Tim Thomas stood on his head and bailed the team out on an off-night by playing out of his mind. It’s one of the reasons he was one of the best goalies in the NHL at one point. The now ex-Bruin, who probably has pretty strong feelings about bailouts of a different kind, bailed out his former team once more Thursday night...

Friday Morning Hockey Notes

from Randy Sportak of the Calgary Sun, - When you see the Sharks play the way they have to start this season, the fact they’ve not reached a Stanley Cup Final, let alone won the big prize, becomes all the more flummoxing. - So, does the blame in Philadelphia still go to the goaltending or will somebody eventually make a change at the top that stops handcuffing the Flyers...
