Stars of Big D:
New York Islanders
The Texas Stars entered the week without a majority of their key players as they were with the Dallas Stars. The gutted roster didn’t really miss a beat though as they won two of their three games last week and showed a season high outburst of offense in their final two games.
The Stars dropped their first game of the week 4-1 but bounced back with a vengeance as they won their next two games by a combined 14-8 margin. The defense was a bit shaky as the team was without Brenden Dillon, Jordie Benn and goalie Cristopher Nilstorp, but the offense was there to pick up the team.
Nearly every forward on the team had a goal during the week (including Austin Smith’s first of his AHL career) and the standout was Alex Chiasson, who had three goals and two assists during the week.
Jack Campbell started two of the three games last week and went 1-1-0 while stopping 52 of 59 shots. Richard Bachman got the last start of the week (his first action in a long time) and s...

The Dallas Stars got in on the Manti Te'o heckling with a funny image on their big screen during a game. See the team's joke here.
The Dallas Stars used the jumbotron at the American Airlines Center to take a shot at Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o during the third period of Saturday's NHL game against the Phoenix Coyotes.
The jumbotron displayed an empty seat with the caption "Manti Teo's girlfriend: Welcome to the game!" Totally unnessary, but totally hilarious.
Jaromir Jagr’s impressive debut with the Dallas Stars wasn’t the only highlight of the evening at the American Airlines Arena Saturday. Manti Te’o's girlfriend Lennay Kekua made an appearance! We have proof too in the photo below… Photo via Will Brinson
This could be the BEST Jaromir Jagr photo ever. Yikes!
This Manti Te'o story has truly taken a life of its own. The bizarre tale of a Notre Dame star linebacker and his (fake) girlfriend has been the subject of many jokes since Deadspin broke the news on Wednesday. With that being said, the Dallas Stars had a very special guest in attendance for their season opener on Saturday night. Lennay Kekua, the name of Te'o's alleged...
Even the Dallas Stars are getting in on the Manti Te’o fake girlfriend fun. During the third period of the team’s season-opening game on Saturday, cameras in the arena flashed to an empty chair in section 125 and showed it on the jumbotron. The caption was: “Manti Te’o's girlfriend welcome to the game!”
When the Te’oing trend was established, the invisible girlfriend...
There she is! On the Jumbotron!
Paul here for George who hope to return by Thursay...
Lehtonen was brilliant tonight (40 saves), only giving up 1 goal to Damien Brunner with 4 seconds left in the game.
Jimmy Howard was very good, but the Stars made the most of their opportunities to defeat Detroit 2-1.
One stat stands-out to me, the Wings are 0-15 on the pp over their first three games (0-4 tonight).
It seems everybody has a Manti Te’o joke to crack these days. The art of Te’oing has also, begrudgingly, become a thing people do as well. The concept is simple, in that a guy poses with his invisible girlfriend and posts the picture of the fictitious couple on the Internet for all to have a good laugh about.
It’s one thing for regular Joes to do it, but what about when an...
After Sunday's 1-0 victory over the Dallas Stars, I turned on other hockey games just to wind down. I caught the end of Vancouver-Edmonton which went to a shootout and then tuned into Phoenix-Chicago, a run and gun affair. Clearly, the Phoenix-Chicago game was tons of fun to watch as a hockey fan in general and fan of neither team specifically. And it was tons different than...
DETROIT -- He didn't get the shutout, but Kari Lehtonen got the win. Lehtonen came within less than four seconds of a his 22nd career whitewashing, making 39 saves, and Michael Ryder scored both goals in the Dallas Stars' 2-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena on Tuesday night. Rookie Damien Brunner ruined Lehtonen's shutout attempt by scoring his first...
DETROIT -- Kari Lehtonen came within less than four seconds of a shutout, making 39 saves, and Michael Ryder scored both goals in the Dallas Stars' 2-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena on Tuesday night. Rookie Damien Brunner ruined Lehtonen's shutout attempt by scoring his first NHL goal, with 3.4 seconds left. It came off a goal-mouth scramble. Cody...
ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Zach Parise's first goal in a Wild uniform made the difference, as the Wild improved to 2-0 for the season, shutting out the Dallas Stars 1-0 on Sunday. Dallas got 31 saves from rookie goalie Cristopher Nilstorp in his NHL debut, but could not muster any offense in the Stars' first road game of the season. Parise, the NHL's most talked-about free...
PREVIEW 6:45 AM CST
The Dallas Stars worked hard on opening weekend to manage a split of their back-to-back games against the Phoenix Coyotes and Minnesota Wild. Tonight, they are in action for the third time in four nights as they head to Motown to take on the Detroit Red Wings. The Wings got humiliated (6-0) by St. Louis in their opener on Saturday, but rebounded last night...
