With the second overall pick, Dale Tallon and the Florida Panthers opted to select Finnish center Aleksander Barkov. The selection came as a bit of a surprise, with talent like defenseman Seth Jones and winger Jonathan Drouin still avaiable.
Barkov sat down with media members after he found out he would be headed to the Sunshine State.

No, born in Finland.

What influence was he on your hockey life?
Of course, very much, he and my mother put me on the skates and gave me a stick, and they helped me very much in my career, and I love them.
Who were some of your idols growing up?
I had a lot of players, all NHL. I was a very big fan of NHL, and there was maybe Joe Sakic and Eric Lindros and all the players like them.
Do you model your game after them?
No, I just play my own game.
