ANAHEIM, CA - NOVEMBER 25: Jussi Jokinen #36 of the Carolina Hurricanes before a faceoff against the Anaheim Ducks at the Honda Center on November 25, 2009 in Anaheim, California. (Photo by Harry How/Getty Images)
Shero made a lot of big moves last week. But sometimes the small deals pay off the biggest. Even though he said he was done, Shero got the veteran Jussi Jokinen for a pick, mostly because Jim Rutherford, GM of the Canes, screwed up. Here is what the new Double J is about.   Faceoffs, faceoffs, faceoffs Jokinen, despite being listed as a left winger, took the third-most faceoffs with the Canes last season: He was in the same place this year, as well. No question a smaller sample size, but for the role he could play here you can see why he was bought in. This season, he is winning 59% of his faceoffs. Upgrade across the board No disrespect to Joe Vitale at all, but Jokinen is an immediate upgrade to what looks like Vitale's spot in the lineup. (Could also be Tanner Glass): Comparison via dobberhockey: Jokinen can kill penalties, as well. Like we said, massive upgrade to the Pens' bottom six. He is also third all-time in shootout goals, so that's cool. Playoff tested Jokinen hasn't been in the playoffs in a few years. But the last time he was, he scored a ton of big goals: In 18 games played in the 2009 playoffs, Jokinen had 11 points and three game-winning goals. The new double J   Summary In case you didn't read it above, the piece from the Shutdown Line is a must-read on Jokinen: Supposedly the reason why no team ended up claiming Jokinen was because he still had a year left on his contract, which will pay him $3 mil. next season. Sure, that looks bad when you see that he has only 11 points in 33 games, but there was a time when Jokinen was worth that kind of money and it was only a year ago. Jokinen has all the makings of a solid addition to this Pens lineup. He scores a big goal in the playoffs. Write it down, jack.
