Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record reports that despite still not practicing Brian Boyle (right leg) and Ryane Clowe (undisclosed) will travel with the team to Washington. ...while this obviously doesn't mean they're playing in Game 1, they're not, I am encouraged that the Rangers are allowing Clowe to fly as anyone with a severe concussion is usually prohibited from traveling on a plane. Gross adds that Marc Staal (eye) and Derek Dorsett (broken clavicle), who is still wearing non-contact jersey, will also make the trip, but neither is likely to play. Staal told Pat Leonard at the Daily News this about his status for Game 1 after practice...  "I'm not gonna ... probably not going to play tomorrow." ...no surprise here. Although, Ovechkin is probably licking his chops knowing Staal won't be in the line-up for at least Game 1. Hopefully, Girardi and McDonagh will remind him that the Rangers have other capable defenseman and Del Zotto will ...

Before the Rangers take on the Capitals in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals tonight, here are my three keys to the game that the Rangers need to do to come out with a win in Game 1. 1. It is vital that the Rangers keep their cool and survive the first period. A [...]

The New, New York Rangers

from Larry Brooks of the New York Post, A year ago, we knew exactly who and what those guys were when the playoffs began. They were Black-and-Blueshirts and they were Bluebloods who for the most part had been nurtured within the organization and had coalesced to earn top seed in the East. Now, though, as the first round of this year’s tournament opens here tonight against...

Earth to Richards, Nash

Alex Ovechkin at least had a goal. Searching for exactly what the New York Rangers' high-priced forwards did in a 3-1 loss in Game 1 of the first-round series against Ovechkin's Capitals on Thursday night takes you to the back page of the score sheet. Brad Richards was a minus-1 and had one shot on goal. Rick Nash was more active with five shots (and four more that either...

(3) Washington Capitals vs. (6) New York Rangers – Preview

It just had to be the Rangers, didn’t it?  As if both teams had not had enough of each other over the past five playoffs.  It honestly does not feel like there are any story lines left to see play out.  We’ve seen rookie goalies stand on their heads (Varlamov and Holtby).  We’ve seen a team completely collapse in practically no time (Joel Ward double minor).  We’ve even...

The Diversionary Brilliance Of Ted Black

One of my favorite hockey quotes ever came from former Sabres goalie Martin Biron, who was asked what he was thinking when tough guy Andrew Peters stepped in for him to fight Ray Emery during the legendary Sabres -- Senators brawl of 2007.  Biron’s answer: “I kind of got stood up on the dance floor.” Sabres general manager Darcy Regier could’ve used the same line Monday...

For a full box score, click here.  -- The talk leading into the game was about staying out of the box against a dangerous Capitals' power play. :34 seconds in and the Rangers take a mindless...

TiqIQ Series Preview: Rangers vs. Capitals

by Richie Katz, TiqIQ To begin the shortened NHL season, The Washington Capitals won only two of their first 11 games. The playoffs seemed to be out of the question. That is until someone turned the switch on Alex Ovechkin. In the month of April alone, he scored 14 goals in 13 games. Eventually outdueling [...]

Possible Concussion for Clowe; Dorsett Not Cleared; Staal's Vision; Lundqvist's New Mask

Jim Cerny at nyrangers.com reports that neither Ryane Clowe (undisclosed) nor Brian Boyle (right leg) practiced with the team today. Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record says that the Rangers lack of information on Clowe makes it more and more likely he's dealing with a concussion. ...man, Clowe's physical game is perfect for playoffs. A prolonged absence due to a...
