PLAYERS: Chris Stewart
TEAMS: St. Louis Blues
A recent article from the official site of the St. Louis Blues might have revealed what was the driving force behind Chris Stewart's disappointing 2011-12. After coming over to St. Louis and having a successful 2010-11, Stewart looked slow and unmotivated out on the ice in 2011-12. Between last year and the present year, Stewart reportedly worked out and improved his stamina. As we've seen, his hard work is paying dividends. So, was Stewart's dismal performance due to a lack of effort? Not quite. It turns out Stewart has an allergy to brown rice - a staple in his meals - which was affecting his metabolism and causing him to be sluggish on the ice.  Well, this is certainly an interesting story. Stewart, a player with Jamaican ties, grew up with brown rice being a prominent feature in his diet. Evidently, at some point during or shortly before the 2011-12 campaign, Stewart developed an allergy to the food he's consumed for ages.  Stewart reportedly worked...

St. Louis Blues have impressive penalty kill streak going too

While most of the headlines rightfully point out how impressive Brian Elliott has been in net during the last three games, all of which shutouts, the St. Louis Blues have another streak going too. The Blues have an impressive penalty kill streak going as well, which has also helped the Blues win six games in a row and solidify themselves as true contender once again in the Western...

St. Louis Blues: Brian Elliott posts third consecutive shutout in win over Minnesota

Earlier this season, St. Louis Blues goalie Brian Elliott was struggling mightily and had been basically relegated to the press-box after the emergence of rookie Jake Allen. After a short "conditioning" stint in Peoria and following the aftermath of Jaroslav Halak's groin injury, Elliott has been incredible. So incredible, that he posted his third consecutive shutout...

St. Louis vs Nashville: Brian Elliott posts shutout for second consecutive game in 1-0 win

Just a few weeks ago, St. Louis Blues' fans were convinced that Brian Elliott was finished as an option between the pipes for the Blues. Ever since Jaroslav Halak went down with an injury, Elliott has been spectacular and Tuesday night was no exception. Elliott stopped all 15 shots he faced to pick up his second consecutive shutout as the Blues beat the Nashville Predators 1...

Brian Elliott posts third consecutive shutout, silences his critics

Remember all of those fans (and even some writers) that were suggesting and even insisting that the Blues trade Brian Elliott? They're all pretty quiet right now, aren't they?  Elliott posted his third consecutive shutout with a 2-0 victory over the Minnesota Wild. As the Blues picked up their sixth consecutive victory, Elliott collected his fifth consecutive "...

Elliott was relatively untested en route to his second consecutive...

Wild expect challenge from red-hot Blues

Prior to facing the Minnesota Wild about a week and a half ago, the St. Louis Blues were clinging to the Western Conference's final playoff spot before a victory got them started on a season-best run. Minnesota's defeat in that contest began a tailspin that's mainly been the result of an offensive slump. Visiting St. Louis looks to extend its winning streak to six games...

Blues Back To Their Winning Ways

from Pierre LeBrun of ESPN, Winners of five straight and suddenly just two points out of fourth in the Western Conference, the Blues are peaking at the right time, with just 10 games to go in their regular season. Reminds me so much of the way the Los Angeles Kings played survival hockey in the second half of last season; by the time the puck dropped in the playoffs, they...

Steen's lone goal gives Preds another 1-0 loss

(Photo by: John Russell/Getty Images)   16:37 in the second period, Alexander Steen unknowingly scored the game winner for the St. Louis Blues in their 1-0 defeat over the Nashville Predators at Bridgestone Arena. Steen’s cannon from the left wing broke the scoreless stalemate and put the only goal on the scoreboard Tuesday night. This comes as little...

Paul McCann: Playing out the string

While not officially eliminated from playoff contention, last night’s 1-0 loss to the St. Louis Blues effectively ended any hope of the playoffs in Smashville this weird, truncated season. I will leave the post mortem to after the regular season is complete and the lockers are cleaned out, but I will say this. This team hasn’t quit. The compete level has been strong...

Blues-Blue Jackets Preview

The St. Louis Blues have been getting stellar goaltending from Brian Elliott, but it's rookie Jake Allen's turn to be between the pipes. Allen is expected to start Friday night as the Blues look for a seventh straight victory when they visit the Columbus Blue Jackets. St. Louis (23-14-2) is riding its longest win streak since a seven-game run Oct. 22-Nov. 7, 2010. The last...
