That brand-new Pacific Division title banner in the Honda Center rafters is going to mock the Anaheim Ducks until they figure out how to back up their regular-season prowess with playoff success. With Teemu Selanne back for one last run at the Stanley Cup, the Ducks are eager to extend the Finnish Flash's final season well into the summer. Anaheim went back to training camp this month still smarting from its seven-game loss to Detroit in the first round of last season's playoffs. The Ducks have still only won one playoff round since claiming their only NHL title in 2007 - none since 2009. The best regular-season winning percentage in franchise history led to another early summer, and coach Bruce Boudreau is confident the Ducks are done with first-round flops. ''I think they're mad, and rightfully so,'' Boudreau said. ''Good players, and teams that are good, it takes them a long time to get over (it when) they didn't do what they wanted to ...

Anaheim Ducks sign first-round pick Shea Theodore

The Anaheim Ducks have signed first-round pick Shea Theodore to a three-year contract. The Ducks announced their entry-level deal with the defenseman Tuesday. Theodore was the 26th overall pick in the NHL draft last June. He has one assist in his first three preseason games with Anaheim during training camp. He played more than 22 minutes Sunday against Colorado, leading all Ducks...

Colorado Victorious 2-1 Over Ducks

Faithful Ducks fans followed the Ducks Caravan on Sunday afternoon from the Spectrum to Fashion Island to the Honda Center.   The finale, the game between the Ducks and Avalanche, did not end quite as they imagined it might.  Semyon Varlamov made 37 saves to give Colorado a 2-1 win.   Kyle Palmieri was the only Ducks player to get anything past the goaltender, who had an...

What Penner Will We See?

from Pierre LeBrun of ESPN, Few players in this league have been more polarizing than Penner, whose 6-foot-4, 242-pound frame and soft hands scream top-six power forward. His terrific play during both the Ducks’ 2007 Cup run and the Kings’ 2011 title campaign -- as well as his 32-goal campaign with the Oilers in 2009-10 -- reminded you of just how good he can be. But then...

SI’s Muir: Teemu Selanne bio-pic to premiere in Finland

It's somewhat difficult to explain to North Americans how much of a rock star Teemu Selanne is back home in Finland. If someone attempts to at least peruse Finnish sports websites on a semi-regular basis, every point the man registers, every hit, every promotional appearance, every time the man goes golfing or plays tennis in the summer, it's on the front pages of Iltahleti...

Los Angeles Edges Past Anaheim 2-1

The last time the Kings and Ducks met in pre-season, the Kings left a great big whoop ass mark on the Ducks waddly little bottoms with a 6-0 defeat.  The final meeting of the two teams before the regular season begins did not end in a win for the Ducks, but the 2-1 loss was a lot less embarrassing and much better played overall.   Good thing, too, because the game was actually...
