Found May 08, 2012 on Buzz On Broad:

There are numerous reports today at the Flyers practice that injured defenseman Andrej Meszaros will be in the lineup tonight.  Meszaros was skating with the regulars today, while Andreas Lilja was skating with the extras.

Mez has been out since March 19th with a herniated disc.  If Mez looks like he is healthy and can be effective, this could be a good thing for the Flyers tonight.

Claude Giroux's suspension a blow to Flyers playoff hopes

There's never a good time for a headshot to happen on the ice, and there's never a good reason for it. The Philadelphia Flyers found that out the hard way as their top playoff scorer Claude Giroux has been suspended for an illegal hit to the head in last night's loss to the New Jersey Devils. His shoulder made contact with Danius Zubrus' head here on this hit: ...

Another Flyers season ends but the future remains bright

It really wasn't supposed to happen this way for the Flyers, at least not this season.  No, I'm not talking about how the Flyers weren't supposed to lose to the Devils; the Flyers weren't supposed to even get to the second round this season. After making drastic changes last offseason, the Flyers instantly entered a rebuilding mode, one that will feature a number...

Blame it all on Bryzgalov?

Amidst discussion of Jaromir Jagr’s future and the Flyers’ baffling team-wide performances against the New Jersey Devils, much of the criticism regarding the Flyers’ individual shortcomings involves pointed and harsh criticism of Ilya Bryzgalov’s play (though the Devils are earning full marks for taking out Philly as well). Given so many suggestions over the last 12 or...

Seriously?? Flyers’ Season Ends With 3-1 Loss

Kimmo Timonen twirled and dished the puck back, deeper into the Flyers‘ zone to try to shake a pressuring attacker. The puck landed on Ilya Bryzgalov‘s stick and by the time he could look up, David Clarkson was bearing down hot and heavy. With panic in his eyes, Bryzgalov tried to saucer the puck out of harm’s way. It was a Bryzaster. Ultimately, Clarkson’s series-clinching...

Giroux Suspended Flyers Season Over?

Prior to Game 4, I stated that the Flyers were not playing NHL Playoff level hockey.  Giroux did play playoff hockey and it got him suspended for Game 5.  The Flyers season may be over with the loss of Giroux and any evidence of team heart.  The Devils have played a strong forecheck but it has not been that great.  The Flyers biggest problem is that they are still playing the...

Open Post- Will Philadelphia Force A Game 6 In New Jersey?

The Devils lead the series 3-1 and will move on to the ECF with a win tonight. I am sure the Flyers will bring their best tonight and even with Claude Giroux serving a one game suspension, the Flyers have enough offence to win tonight. The question is, do they have enough defense to hold the Devils down? We shall soon find out, puck drops just after 7:30pm ET and can be viewed...

So much for that playoff savior thing

The hero folk tale was supposed to begin at the end of Game 5 in the first-round playoff series between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers. After falling behind three games to none, Pittsburgh had rallied to win Game 4 by a final of 10-3, and held on to squeak out a 3-2 victory in Game 5. Philadelphia was losing all the momentum it had built, and Flyers star Claude...

NHL Suspends Claude Giroux for one game

The NHL Department of Player Safety has finally gotten it right, they have finally suspended a "star" player for committing a dirty hit to the head. I know that there are many Philadelphia Flyers fans that are upset with Shanahan's ruling, I don't blame them because Brendan Shanahan has been very inconsistent, but the fact remains that...

More gutless: Sacha Treille or Claude Giroux?

Sacha Treille of France on Roman Starchenko of Kazakhstan during the first game of the 2012 IIHF World Championship. The cheap elbow to the head made worse by the gutless Treille incredulously... Full story at Bob's Blitz ~

Dangers of Twitter: Flyers broadcaster Chris Therien makes unfortunate Penn State joke

It is unfortunate what allegedly happened to the victims of former Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky. It is also unfortunate to see a some use Sandusky as a punch-line. It can be even more upsetting to see a professional broadcaster use it when arguing with fans on Twitter. Enter Philadelphia Flyers broadcaster Chris Therien, a former NHL player and now the radio color analyst...

Flyers Claude Giroux suspended for Game 5

Philadelphia Flyers forward Claude Giroux was suspended on Monday by the NHL for his illegal check to the head on New Jersey center Dainius Zubrus in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.   Giroux will miss Game 5 on Tuesday at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. The Flyers will have to win Game 5 without their leading scorer to remain in the playoffs as the deficit is...

New Jersey Devils eliminate Philadelphia Flyers, advance to Eastern Conference Finals

In an utterly bizarre game, Ilya Bryzgalov gave up a terrible goal and yet kept a Philadelphia Flyers team that seemed to forget how to play defense and how to score goals in a game the New Jersey Devils almost easily won, first off-side goal included, by a 3-1 tally, capturing the series in 5 games. The Devils advance to face the winner of the Washington-New York series in the...

Claude Giroux Suspended One Game for Hit on Dainius Zubrus

Claude Giroux, star forward for the Philadelphia Flyers and the leading scorer in this year’s NHL playoffs, has been suspended one game for hitting New Jersey Devils forward Dainius Zubrus in the head. The incident occurred during last night’s Game 4 of the Flyers/Devils Eastern Conference semifinal playoff series. Giroux was given an illegal check to the head penalty during...

Devils End Flyers Season; Move on to Eastern Conference Finals

In only five games the New Jersey Devils defeated the Philadelphia Flyers, propelling them to a date against the Rangers or Capitals in the Eastern Conference Finals. In the series against the Flyers, the Devils shed the “tired and sloppy” look for one that suited them much better against the highly-favored Flyers squad. The Devils relied on a strong defensive prowess to shut...

Anatomy of Devils' 3-1 series lead on Flyers

By David StrehleIn many aspects, the 2012 Eastern Conference Semifinals series between the Philadelphia Flyers and New Jersey Devils has gone just the way the experts had predicted. One team has thoroughly dominated play through hard work and a furious forechecking attack, unleashing a barrage of shots at the opposing goaltender, who has yielded goals only after making a series of...
