One of the lasting images of the 2013 Stanley Cup Final was a bloody Andrew Shaw hoisting the cup above his head after the Blackhawks finished off the Bruins in Game 6. Shaw received a puck to the face earlier in the game, which caused him to get stitches around his right eye and cheek. The stitches didn’t last very long, though, as he was bleeding straight through them by the end of the game. Now that Shaw has had some time to heal, he is auctioning off the stitches he received to raise money for The V Foundation for Cancer Research. He made the announcement on a Facebook page titled “Andrew Shaw’s Stitches Auction to Benefit The V Foundation” on Tuesday. “Starting Thursday Aug. 15, 2013 we will be auctioning off the actual stitches that Andrew Shaw received from a puck he took to the face in Game Six of the Stanley Cup Finals. This auction will be run for ten days ending on Aug. 25, 2013 on eBay.com. “We will post links to the auction on this page. The stitches are being professionally framed with an autographed photograph of Andrew Shaw plus there will be other items included in this auction lot.” Check out the picture of Shaw’s stitches below. And here is a video of the play that caused the injury.
