One of the enduring images from this year’s Stanley Cup finals was Blackhawks forward Andrew Shaw‘s bloody face, the result of taking a wayward puck to the cheek during the series clinching Game 6 victory over the Bruins. Shaw ended up with a few stitches just under his right eye, but managed to finish the game and hoist the Cup with his teammates in Boston. Now, according to Shaw’s Facebook page, those stitches will be up for auction on eBay starting August 15, with proceeds going to  The V Foundation for Cancer Research, with the funds being directly allocated by the foundation for breast cancer research. Here’s the full release… Starting Thursday August 15th, 2013 we will be auctioning off the actual stitches that Andrew Shaw received from a puck he took to the face in Game Six of the Stanley Cup Finals. This auction will be run for ten days ending on August 25th, 2013 on eBay.com We will post links to the auction on this page. The stitches are being professionally framed with an autographed photograph of Andrew Shaw plus there will be other items included in this auction lot. The best part? The entire final bid price, 100% will be directly donated to The V Foundation for Cancer Research. The V Foundation has promised us that the entire donation will be allocated to breast cancer research. Please Like our Facebook page and spread the word about this on-line fundraiser to support a great cause! And here’s video of Shaw taking a puck to the grill… Great effort for a great cause, even if the auction item is borderline grotesque. On the plus side, you’ll have the most unique game used item in hockey history this side of Habs legend Yvan Cournoyer’s false teeth.
