Peter Chiarelli unsure Bruins will retain Shawn Thornton

Shawn Thornton‘s future with the Bruins is murky at best, as he was not told that he wouldn’t be re-signed Friday, but Peter Chiarelli did not tell him the team plans to retain him. Thornton, a free agent, wants to play another two years. His preference is to play in Boston, so the sense is that if the Bruins will have him back, he’ll return. If they don’t want him, he won’t...

Pump The Brakes On The “Trade Brad Marchand” Talk

The city of Boston has many nicknames: - The Hub - The Cradle of Liberty - Beantown But I have another nickname for this city, especially when it comes to their sport franchises: - The City of Overreaction It seems that once a player has a bad postseason for the Bruins the “trade him” birds come flying out of their nest and take to whatever social media and/or outlet (see: radio...

Seidenberg: "I'll be better than before."

The Bruins return to the ice this fall will mark the return of veteran defenseman Dennis Seidenberg, who, as we all painfully remember, missed the majority of the season with a torn ACL/MCL in his right knee. Seidenberg, who was just on the brink of return when the Bruins lost Game 7, will now have the entire off-season to bring his game to a whole new level.     After...

Bruins keen on keeping Jarome Iginla after strong season

One of the real unknowns for the Boston Bruins heading into the offseason is what will happen with 36-year-old impending free agent Jarome Iginla. The right winger signed a one-year, bonus-laden deal with the Bruins and then went out and scored 30 goals during a solid first season skating on a line with David Krejci and Milan Lucic. Both players had their most consistent regular...

Will The Canucks Be Like The Bruins?

from Tony Gallagher of the Vancouver Province, Here are the Bruin ingredients, with some fun chipped in. You need a freaky, huge, gifted and intelligent monster of a defenceman like Zdeno Chara, who intimidates most attackers and downright terrifies almost all Euro forwards. Stanley and Livingstone may have to be hired as scouts to find that guy. Then you need a mobile...

Jim Benning Downplays ‘Boston Model,’ Looks To Add Depth To Canucks

There is no such thing as the “Boston model,” according to someone who was really important in building the “Boston model.” The Vancouver Canucks hired Jim Benning to be their new general manager this week after the 51-year-old spent nearly seven years as a member of the Boston Bruins organization. During his time with the Bruins, Benning eventually ascended to assistant...

Does Jim Benning to Vancouver reopen the trade of Alexander Edler to Boston?

Of the areas for the Boston Bruins that needs fixing this off-season, maybe chief among them is a retooling of a defensive unit that broke down versus the speedy and agile Montreal Canadiens in round two of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Many point to the fact that the Bruins did not have enough speed or puck-moving ability on the blue-line to maintain a level of sustainability for the...
