Artem Anisimv addressed the media for the first time today after his flashy celebration in last night's 4-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning, which stirred the pot quite a bit in the second period of that game. Anisimov sincerely apologized to the Lightning, and as I speculated last night, he made the case that he did not mean anything by it, at least in the direction of the opposition.

From Andrew Gross:

"Anisimov apologizes to Tampa Bay, says he didn't mean anything by celebration. Was trying to shoot at goal, not Lecavalier."

"Anisimov said he was just trying to do something fun with celebration. Saw a defenseman in Russian hometown did it once, wanted to try."

From the Rangers:

"Anisimov: 'I will never do this celebration again..it's good lesson for me...I have other celebrations in my pocket'"

"Boyle: 'Anyone who knows Artie knows he is not malicious...but he's a big boy, and I am his friend...I will help in any way I can'"

I think some people are taking the ordeal a little too far. Anisimov's celebration did not cost the team the game, nor should it have changed the Rangers' play. The Blueshirts did not play as strong as they did in the first half of the game in the second half, and that's why they lost.

Anisimov made a mistake, the Lightning retaliated and that was the end of it.

Here's the replay:

Gotta' love the music put to the end of the clip. Classic.

* John Tortorella said today that defenseman Michael Sauer remains "day-to-day" with a concussion.

* Marty Biron is expected to start in goal tomorrow against Buffalo.
