The Hartford Wolfpack kicked off their 2013-2014 season tonight, losing in a shootout to the Norfolk Admirals. Danny Kristo and Darroll Powe had the goals for the Wolfpack, with Micheal Haley, Chris Kreider, Brandon Mashinter, and captain Aaron Johnson notching assists. It is worth noting that Johnson was the captain, with Haley and Powe serving as the alternates. They may not be...

Yesterday we looked into why the organization decided to keep Jesper Fast over J.T. Miller, focusing on zone starts and puck possession in the first game of the year. Naturally the conversation shifted to why Taylor Pyatt and Brian Boyle were kept, since these are the two whipping boys among the forwards this year. So, let’s address...
Per Steve Zipay, Arron Asham will dress for the first time this season when the Rangers are in Los Angeles tomorrow to take on the Kings. He will be taking Jesper Fast’s spot in the lineup. Asham will skate on the fourth line.
While the initial reaction will likely be outrage (How dare this team sit a kid? He should be in the AHL then. Insert complaint here), it’s worth noting...
5 Bold Predictions for the New York Rangers in 2013/’14
The New York Rangers certainly didn’t inspire much optimism in their season opener, losing tamely to the Phoenix Coyotes 4-1. With that in mind, here are five bold (read: optimistic) predictions for the team in the 2013/’14 campaign.
1. Rick Nash will secure his first 100-point season
Rick Nash is poised for...
John Tortorella has long been known to have a contentious relationship with the media. His on-the-bench interviews with NBC's Pierre McGuire would be enough to make the creators of the original, British version of The Office squirm. However, his new team after being fired by the New York Rangers -- the Vancouver Canucks -- will not be on NBC or NBCSN this season, so ol' Torts...
There was Ryan McDonagh taking a puck on the jaw before the three-minute mark of the first period of the first game. There was Brian Boyle twice sliding in front of power-play blasts after losing his stick in the second period in Phoenix and there were the Rangers blocking a total of 19 shots in their season-opening 4-1 defeat to the Coyotes Thursday night.
A total by the way that...
More of this please (Photo: Ross D. Franklin, CTPost.com).
After Thursday night’s loss in Phoenix, the Rangers have had three full days off before tonight’s contest in Los Angeles. The best news is that captain Ryan Callahan is back, with J.T. Miller being sent to Hartford to make room. Arron Asham will also make his debut tonight, as Jesper Fast will sit. This is because Darryl...
Not so Fast about Jesper coming out of the Rangers’ lineup to accommodate Ryan Callahan’s expected return on Monday here against the Kings.
For rather than scratch the 21-year-old rookie the Blueshirts have assigned 20-year-old winger J.T. Miller to the AHL Wolf Pack.
Miller who played 26 games with the Rangers last year had a difficult time of it in Thursday’s opening 4...
Arron Asham had no illusions entering training camp.
“I came in knowing that it would be do or die” said the 35-year-old winger who will join the Rangers’ lineup for Monday’s game against the Kings after having been a healthy scratch for the opener in Phoenix. “I wanted to show that I could contribute to this team this year but I also want to prove that I can play in the...
Henrik Lundqvist knows how Jonathan Quick felt after giving up an embarrassing, inexcusable goal.
Lundqvist and the New York Rangers didn't let empathy get in the way of their excitement about their first victory of the season.
Brad Richards scored two goals, Ryan McDonagh got credit for a short-handed goal on a comical mistake by Quick, and the Rangers beat the Los Angeles...
October 7th, 1993: It appeared that the offseason trade of John Vanbiesbrouck would give the starting job to Mike Richter, however over the years coach Mike Keenan was given the nickname ‘Captain Hook’, for having a short lease and pulling his goaltenders early. So after allowing four goals in the opener, Keenan went with backup Glenn Healy […]
V for Victory. V for Vigneault.
The Rangers were relentless here on Monday night taking the body pursuing the puck and playing with passion that was missing in Thursday’s opening 4-1 defeat to Phoenix to thus record a 3-1 triumph over the Kings for the first victory of the Alain Vigneault Era.
“It’s big for everybody in the organization and it’s good for Alain” said Brad...
In hockey, two things are certain: injuries and John Tortorella‘s testy press conferences. Only three games into the Vancouver Canucks’ season, both are in play.
Agitating, high-scoring winger Alex Burrows was injured in the Canucks’ season opener against the San Jose Sharks when he dove to block a slap shot during a five-on-three, though the full extent of his injury wasn’t...
The New York Rangers recorded their first win in captain Ryan Callahan's season debut, though it was Brad Richards making the biggest impact.
They'll both likely need to contribute on Tuesday night to capture a victory against the San Jose Sharks, whose offense looks impressive.
New York (1-1-0) continued its nine-game season-opening trip during Madison Square Garden'...

The Ranger world was a tad shocked yesterday when the Rangers announced they were sending J.T. Miller to the AHL’s Hartford Wolfpack. Many, myself included, thought that Jesper Fast would be returned to Hartford. One of the main reasons why Miller was sent to Hartford was to get him some solid ice time. Miller needs powerplay and penalty kill minutes, and...
