EDMONTON — Semyon Varlamov will start in goal for the Avalanche, which will have 21 players in the pregame warmup. Rookie center Brad Malone is in the tentative lineup, but he won’t necessarily make his NHL debut. Defenseman Matt Hunwick will also skate in warmups and could also be scratched. Last night in Calgary, Hunwick played sparingly as a fourth-line center.
Defenseman Ryan Wilson remains out with a head injury. Center Paul Stastny (torso) is on IR and forward Kevin Porter is on suspension.

On Tuesday night, the Colorado Avalanche came into their away game against the Vancouver Canucks with a game plan. After diligently researching their opponent, they determined that playing a physical game will throw the defending Western Conference Champions off their game; after all, the ‘Nucks did seem somewhat out of sorts against the Boston...
The NHL's second-youngest team became younger Friday night.
At first, I was going to write a rip job tonight, starting with the Avs’ choice to play 5-11 defenseman Matt Hunwick as a forward in tonight’s 3-2 loss to the Calgary Flames, otherwise known as The Team The Avalanche Will Never Beat Again. Then I took a look at the stat sheet of Hunwick – 4:53 played, no shots, no points, no hits, one missed shot – and...
