DENVER - NOVEMBER 08: Head coach Joe Sacco of the Colorado Avalanche leads his team against the Edmonton Oilers during NHL action at the Pepsi Center on November 8, 2009 in Denver, Colorado. The Oilers defeated the Avalanche 5-3. (Photo by Doug Pensinger/Getty Images)
Joe Sacco’s run as head coach of the Colorado Avalanche is over, according to the  Colorado Avalanche on Twitter. Frankly, I'm surprised this move did not happen sooner. The once Western Conference powerhouse Avalanche only made it to the postseason one time under the guidance of Joe Sacco, and that was back in 2009-10 when Sacco was a rookie bench boss.Sacco’s record in Colorado tops out at 130-134-14 and now he’ll head to Finland and Sweden to coach Team USA in the World Championships. When you have put up the NHL's second-worst record for two of three years you coach a pro team you should be replaced. I don't think many Colorado Avalanche fans are disappointed with this decision. The Avalanche have not announced a replacement as of yet and Sacco may not be the only one out the door as GM Greg Sherman could soon follow.
