Colorado Avalanche coach Joe Sacco has named reigning Calder Trophy winner Gabriel Landeskog captain of the Avalanche and the youngest captain in NHL history.
Landeskog supplants Sidney Crosby as youngest captain in NHL history by eleven days. Landeskog is 19 years, 286 days old.
Last season, Landeskog led the team in both hits and goals as he won the Calder Memorial Trophy awarded to the top rookie in the NHL. Landeskog fits the mold of a captain, he is a tough and talented player who sacrifices himself to help the team win games.
This isn't Landeskog first time as a captain, he was captain of the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League. He was the first European captain in team history.
