Marc-Andre Cliche had every reason to believe fate was against him in his dream of becoming a regular NHL player. Despite being drafted in the second round (56th overall) by the New York Rangers in 2005, by the 2009-10 season he had been traded to the Los Angeles Kings and had played only one game in the NHL, with the Kings. Cliche is only 26, but this essentially is his rookie season. He has played in 34 of the Avalanche's 40 games as a fourth-line center and a lead forward on the penalty kill. While he doesn't have eye-popping statistics — no goals, five assists — he has done a respectable job in his role, getting average ice time of 8:55 per
