On Monday I posted that Sean Avery did not play in either CT Whale game last weekend due to an "illness." Now, according to Katie Strang at ESPN NY, Avery was scratched from the Whale's game vs. Norfolk last night for disciplinary reasons.Unconfirmed reports have Avery getting into an altercation with a member of the Whale coaching staff, which included spit hitting the coach when the former Ranger winger was yelling at him.Mitch Beck over at The Howlings tells me that Avery is still with the team....might be time to put Avery on re-entry waivers so someone can claim him....seriously, WTF is going on down there. Guess I was correct in questioning whether Avery was actually sick last weekend and whether he was becoming a cancer in the Whale locker room....h/t to reader Chris H.Also in the game, which the Whale lost 3-1, Mats Zuccarello re-injured his ankle while playing for the first time since he hurt said ankle in early December and Erik Christensen made his Whale d...

Postgame: Rangers Blank Leafs to Take Over Top Spot in NHL
It was quite clear going into this game that the Rangers needed to play better hockey, despite having won five of their last six prior to tonight. They did that and managed the blank the red hot Maple Leafs, 3-0, to again take over the top spot in the National Hockey League. For the first time in several weeks, the Blueshirts again played a complete team game, and as they’ve shown...

Senators cool off the hot Rangers
Henrik Lundqvist has been among the NHL's best goalies lately. Ottawa's Craig Anderson won't be joining his New York Rangers counterpart at the All-Star game, but he sure is making a good case that he should be.
Anderson made 34 saves for his first shutout of the season, Jason Spezza scored twice and the Senators beat the surging Rangers 3-0 on Thursday night.

Rangers In Toronto to Battle the Leafs
Coming off a 3-0 shutout loss to the Ottawa Senators, the New York Rangers will look to turn things around tonight against the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Air Canada Centre.

Shut the front door.
That’s how you smother a good team, how you make their night miserable, how you bounce back from a loss.
Fact: The Rangers are quickly becoming the team you don’t want to play, because they will make you absorb a beating, fight for every inch and for every puck, and will give you every reason to give up and get to the lockerroom … and with...

Well, that’s certainly an unforeseen development. It’s hard to argue with the fact that the 2012 NHL Winter Classic — held at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia and featured the Flyers taking on the rival New York Rangers — was an unmitigated success. The game was entertaining, the ballpark looked fantastic and a grand time [...]
