Avalanche forward Chuck Kobasew has been fined $2,500 for tripping Vancouver defenseman Dan Hamhuis on Saturday.

The NHL has fined Colorado Avalanche forward Chuck Kobasew for tripping Vancouver Canucks defenseman Dan Hamhuis. The league announced the $2,500 penalty on Monday. Kobasew received a minor penalty for tripping Hamhuis at 13:20 of the second period Saturday. The Canucks went on to beat the Avalanche 3-2 in a shootout.
No Avalanche skate today. The club will resume practice Monday, when rookie defenseman Tyson Barrie will begin formal preparations for Tuesday’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks at the Pepsi Center. Looks like Ryan Wilson is the odd man out among the defense, to make room for Tyson Barrie’s NHL debut. He’ll be a healthy scratch for tonight’s game with Chicago, along with Matt Hunwick and Kevin Porter.
Coach Joe Sacco said he’s just looking for a “spark” from Barrie, presumably with the offensive part of the game and/or on the power play.

The Avalanche swapped out 20-year-old, first-year professional defensemen Saturday, sending Stefan Elliott to Lake Erie of the American Hockey League and obtaining Tyson Barrie from the Monsters.
