ANAHEIM – Matt Duchene is out, but David Jones is back in. That’s the word I’m hearing, even though the Avs did not have a morning skate today here in sunny Southern California.
Jones, out the last couple weeks with a groin pull, has been activated by the team and should be in the lineup for the New Year’s Eve tilt with the reeling but still dangerous Ducks.
By the way, Jan Hejda remains OK and will play tonight. So too for his team will be Phoenix knucklehead Raffi Torres, who somehow escaped with just a fine for his blindside, cheap-shot elbow to the head of Hejda Thursday night that did injure Hejda – just not seriously apparently.
Torres was fined the maximum $2,500 today by the NHL for the hit, but no suspension. I had a growing feeling there would be no suspension, mostly because Hejda played on that night and will again tonight. But Torres absolutely should have been suspended, and I have no idea now what has happened to the supposedly zero tolerance guidelines Brendan Shanah...
