This morning, the Colorado Avalanche recalled defenseman Tyson Barrie from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Lake Erie Monsters and sent defenseman Stefan Elliott back down to Lake Erie. Both Barrie and Elliott are promising, young, puck-moving defensemen in the Avalanche organization. Both players were drafted by the Avs in 2009, the same draft that saw the Avs...
In their search to find some kind of spark plug, the Colorado Avalanche have sent Stefan Elliott back down to Lake Erie for some more seasoning.
Tyson Barrie has also been called up to replace him. Barrie and Elliott are both highly-touted defensive prospects but have several key differences. Elliott is a shoot-first defenseman in the mold of Brian Leetch or Dan Boyle while Barrie...
No Avalanche skate today. The club will resume practice Monday, when rookie defenseman Tyson Barrie will begin formal preparations for Tuesday’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks at the Pepsi Center. It’s all but certain Barrie will make his NHL debut against the Blackhawks, given that the Avs need an offensive spark and they aren’t going to have a fine young prospect sit...
Greetings from the Pepsi Center, where the Avalanche is hosting the Vancouver Canucks. Defenseman Tyson Barrie, who was recalled from the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League, will not make his NHL debut today. I’m told he recently boarded a flight in Cleveland. He will probably play Tuesday against the Chicago Blackhawks, given that he’s not being called up to watch...
Colorado Avalanche right wing Chuck Kobasaw was fined $2,500 by the NHL on Monday for his trip on Vancouver Canucks defenseman Dan Hamhuis.
Kobasaw was assessed a minor penalty for the incident during the second period of Saturday afternoon's game.
The 29-year-old Kobasaw has collected seven goals, five assists and 33 penalty minutes this season.
Milan Hejduk has been through slumps before, but he admits this is probably the worst of his career.
Another matinee? The Vancouver Canucks head out on the road after a less-than-scintillating six game home stand Saturday with a trip to Colorado – a team that they have absolutely owned the last couple of years.

Mike ChambersAvs forwards Ryan O'Reilly and TJ Galiardi, right, beat themselves up mentally after their 3-2 shootout loss to the Canucks. Goalie JS Giguere is to the left.
Tough shootout loss for the Avalanche, which gains a point for the first time in five games but falls 3-2 to the Vancouver Canucks at the Pepsi Center. Ryan O’Reilly (missed shootout bid) and TJ Galiardi...
The Avalanche didn't practice Sunday, allowing newcomer Tyson Barrie to settle in. Barrie, a 20-year-old, offensive-minded defenseman, is expected to make his NHL debut Tuesday against the Chicago Blackhawks at the Pepsi Center.
