The University of Wisconsin hockey team came back home to the Kohl Center Friday after losing both games to Colorado College last weekend and got back into the win column with a 7-2 victory over Mercyhurst. The win moves the Badgers to 6-8-1 on the season and 6-3-0 on home ice. Jefferson Dahl started the scoring for the Badgers at 13:20 with assists from Michael Mersch and Justin Schultz. Less than 3 minutes later, the Badgers added to their 1-0 lead when Mersch scored with an assist from Jefferson Dahl.Twenty-four seconds into the second period, the Badgers struck again when Schultz put the puck into the net. Mercyhurst answered at 14:28 with a goal from defenseman Nick Jones to make the score 3-1.Wisconsin added two more goals, from Mark Zengerle and Frankie Simonelli, early in the third period to increase its lead to 5-1. Mercyhurst responded with 8 minutes into the period with a goal from Derek Elliot to narrow the lead to 5-2. With 5 minutes remaining in the game, Mersch scored his second goal of the night to make it 6-2. Schultz added one more goal in the final minute to give the Badgers a 7-2 victory.Wisconsin takes on Mercyhurst in the final game of their series at 7 p.m. Saturday.
