The Nashville Predators made the announcement Wednesday that they have signed defenseman Victor Bartley to a 3-year, $2 million contract, no longer making him a restricted free agent. Bartley will make $600,000 next season and in 2014-15 and $800,000 in 2015-16. There was no mention of AHL salary in the press release, which means Bartley is locked into a one-way deal, giving him the amazing opportunity to stay with the Predators at the start of the season. Last season, Bartley was called up from the Milwaukee Admirals due to injuries suffered by Hal Gill and Scott Hannan and under-performances from Jonathon Blum and Ryan Ellis. By the end of the season, Bartley was on Nashville's second defensive pairing with Kevin Klein. This contract is well deserved as he comfortably filled a missing role without much experience. In 24 games, he had seven assists and a +2 goal differential. At 25, Bartley's route to the NHL has been notable. From the Western Hockey League, the undrafted defenseman went to the AHL under the Bruins' organization, ECHL, back up to the AHL under the Islanders' organization, to the Allsvenskan in Sweden, back to the AHL after being signed by the Preds, and now finally at the NHL level. He has battled through adversity throughout his career. In Bartley's past contract with Nashville, he was signed to a two-year, two-way deal that would pay him $537,500 at the NHL level and $67,500 at the AHL level.
