Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Flyers, 2-1, in overtime in the final meeting between the two teams in 2013.
A rivalry is renewed with the first of four meetings between the Flyer and Penguins on Thursday night. The Battle of Pennsylvania is always anticipated.
For the Flyers, there is no good timing for this game. They are off to the worst start in franchise history, dropping to 1-6-0 following a 3-2 loss to the Canucks on Tuesday.
With this being the final game for the Flyers until next Thursday, this would be the final chance at points of any kind for a good stretch. For a team desperate for points, even getting to overtime would have to feel like a victory.
Of course, for many of the Flyers, getting some individual numbers would also help. Most notably, Claude Giroux and Jake Voracek, a pair of the Flyers top names, are in desperate need of points. Giroux and Voracek have combined for five total points in seven games, all assists. Also without goals on...

Crosby notched his eighth career hat trick last Saturday night in a come-from-behind victory against Tampa Bay, winning 5-4. In the three games Crosby played last week he had eight points (3G...

Throughout the 2013-2014 NHL season, I’ll be posting player features each Friday. This week, we’re going to take a look at Sidney Crosby.

I thought about saving this one for last, but I couldn’t resist. He’s currently on a seven-game point streak...

Sidney Crosby's fingerprints -- and even a little of his blood -- were all over the Penguins' 3-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers tonight at Consol Energy Center.
He had three points as the Penguins improved to 5-1 including 4-0 at home for first time since they opened 7-0 at the Civic Arena in 1994-95.
The Penguins got the only goal of the first period. Crosby from behind...

Evgeni Malkin's power-play goal 7:20 into the third period put the Pittsburgh Penguins in front for good and the Penguins stayed hot at home with a 3-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night.
Pascal Dupuis and Chris Kunitz also scored for Pittsburgh. Sidney Crosby assisted on all three Penguin goals to vault him into the NHL scoring lead. Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 20...

Sidney Crosby, Jussi Jokinen and Chris Kunitz scored goals, leading the Pittsburgh Penguins past the Philadelphia Flyers 4-1 on Thursday night.
Evgeni Malkin added an empty-net goal in the final seconds.

We as a fan base often heap praise upon Sidney Crosby, and rightfully so, while sometimes turning a side eye to Evgeni Malkin. Malkin may win the scoring title occasionally but other times he seems inconsistent and enigmatic. You can question him, I feel bad for him.
Last night Evgeni Malkin skated with Chuck Kobasew and Jussi Jokinen. Kobasew was once a 20 goal scorer...
Now in the new Metropolitan Division, the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers are in the same spots they were most of last season.
The Penguins are at the top as the division's highest-scoring team, and the Flyers are at the bottom due greatly to a woeful offense heading into these rivals' season series opener Thursday night in Philadelphia.

This is about as close to "must win" territory as you get less than 10 games into the season.
Regardless of what happens tonight between the Flyers and Sidney Crosby's Penguins, nothing is going to affect Craig Berube's job or even Paul Holmgren's as the GM.
But a FLyer loss tonight would be especially devastating because they would have a full six days...
Lets assume that Sidney Crosby, Geno Malkin and the Pittsburgh Penguins take beleaguered goalie Devan Dubnyk and the Edmonton Oilers behind the barn for a beat down tonight. Poor Dubnyk has zero confidence in himself and his game is off the rails right now. The Oilers need a goalie that they can rely on for 60 minutes of superior goaltending on a nightly basis. Dubnyk has proven that he is n...

Last Game for the Pens: Saturday, a 5-4 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Sidney Crosby scored his first hat trick since 2010, which says all you need to know about how his last couple of seasons has been derailed by injuries. He added an assist on Matt Niskanen’s game-winning goal.
