Washington Capitals Defenseman Jeff Schultz can tell it’s only a matter of time. The writings on the wall are becoming more and more clear to him. All Schultz can do is wait for the phone call telling him he has been traded or moved down to the AHL.
As the Capitals take the ice tonight against bitter rival Pittsburgh Penguins, Schultz will be in his 12 healthy scratch in the past 14 games. With that in mind, as well as Tuesday’s call up of defenseman Tomas Kundratek, has Schultz wondering just how long he has left wearing the Capitals uniform.
However, Schultz remains skeptical to a point, and is still supporting his teammates through his tribulations. And then again, maybe the Capitals have realized that the 25-year-old no longer fits into their system and it’s time to move on, despite the fact that he is only two years into his four-year, $11 million contract.
