Team executives in our major sports negotiate contracts all of the time and therefore see all sorts of scenarios. But, the rarest of them all is when they have a mountain of money and want to give it to a player, only to find out that his camp is somewhat reluctant to accept it. That appears to be the situation here, 72 hours before opening night in the NHL, as the Dallas Stars and Jamie Benn are trying to sort out his contract situation while getting the club ready to play Saturday night with or without him. There is very little question how they feel about him. They have showered him with praise and adoration for a few years now, pledging their allegiance and their future to Benn. Surely, if there was any interest in low-balling him when it was time to "Pay that man his money", they would have picked a real odd strategy in the press. Sources suggest that the Stars have been willing to go to some pretty high neighborhoods in money to get a deal done, and are willin...

Trade: Edmonton acquires defenseman Mark Fistric from Dallas for third-round pick in 2013

The Edmonton Oilers have acquired defenseman Mark Fistric from Dallas in exchange for a third-round pick at the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. I would not recommend picking up Mark Fistric in any type of fantasy hockey format as he'll be recorded two assists in 60 contests last season with the Dallas Stars.Having said this, I'm very excited about this acquisition, Fistric is an Edmonton...

Will Ryan O’Reilly Stay In Russia?

from Tim Wharnsby of CBC, The Colorado Avalanche will have more difficulty luring back restricted free agent Ryan O'Reilly from Russia than the Montreal Canadiens and Dallas Stars will have in locking up their unsigned youngsters, P.K. Subban and Jamie Benn, respectively. Metallurg Magnitogorsk, the KHL team that O'Reilly plays for, is paying the 21-year-old forward...

50 NHL Fantasy Predictions

from Matt Cubeta of NHL.com, 1. Last year I said Datsyuk would reach 100 points. This year I'm saying he won't top 40 points -- 40 points in 48 games is a rate of .83 points-per-game, which would've tied him for 44th in the NHL last season. Between his declining stats, potential for injury and his lack of shots and PIMs, he might not be worth an early draft pick...
