Thanks in large part to a pair of shorthanded goals, the Bruins started off their season with a win over the Lightning. One of those penalty shot goals came courtesy of Chris Kelly. Berkshire Bank Rewind went back to the first game of the season and got a better look at the beautiful shot, highlighting the alternate captain’s intelligence on the ice. Kelly read the play perfectly as Tampa Bay was making its way down the ice, and he was able to intercept a pass intended for Anders Lindback and notch the first goal of the night for the B’s. Check out Kelly’s first penalty-shot goal of his career in the above video. Filed under: Boston Bruins, Boston Bruins Video, Headlines, NESN Video

Boston Bruins: Starting off on the right skate

Chris Kelly makes an impressive move scoring on a penalty shot (Photo credit: Matt Stone/Boston Herald) The Boston Bruins got the result they wanted last night with a 3-1 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning.  The Lightning, a very good offensive team, were not able to cash in on too many of their scoring opportunities as Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask saved 32 of the 33 shots he faced. ...

Chris Kelly rediscovers scoring touch

Hockey is a game of inches full of heartbreak and heroes. Chris Kelly has been on both sides of the equation. Last season was tough on the Bruins center. After scoring a career-high 20 goals in 2011-12 Kelly finished with three in the strike-shortened 2012-13 season. He added two goals in the Stanley Cup finals but it’s the one he missed against the Blackhawks in Game 4 that remains...

Jarome Iginla Discusses Why He Chose Pittsburgh Over Boston Originally, Says It Was All About ‘Short-Term’ (Video)

Jarome Iginla didn’t make many friends in Boston when he opted to join the Penguins over the Bruins during the 2013 season, but now sporting the spoked-B, the veteran couldn’t be happier with where he is at. Winning is above all else for Iginla, and that was what led him to originally choose to go to Pittsburgh. They were the hotter team at the time he made his decision, but...

Jarome Iginla becomes a Bruin in a minute

It was a fairly clean hit set up by an extremely poor pass by Milan Lucic that left Jarome Iginla out to dry in open-ice. Instead of taking the hit, Iginla turned to the man who hit him, said a couple of words, and dropped the gloves. Suddenly, one of the most hated players in the Bruins’ fan-base on account of his “choice” at last years trade deadline endeared himself to Bruins...

Boston Bruins: Off to a great start

Chris Kelly scoring a penalty shot goal (Photo: Caryn Switaj/Bruins Blog) Two wins and zero losses can be viewed horizontally beside the Boston Bruins’ title in the Atlantic Division and overall conference. Kicking off the 2013-14 season, the Bruins defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-1 at home on Oct. 3. Speedy and swift forward, Chris Kelley started the scoring on the night, erecting...

Boston Bruins will win Atlantic Division

(Photo: Caryn Switaj/Bruins Blog) The temperature is slowly dropping, arenas are filled with ecstatic and joyful fans, chipping of ice is heard, and sonorously loud chants strike the air as the NHL is back in full tilt. The 2013-14 season has already begun, and the Boston Bruins have tackled a few divisional games to start off. The season brought a realignment of divisions within...

Stability Reigns: Bruins Extend Dennis Seidenberg

Elsa / Getty Images By Mitch Cole (@DirtyWaterBuzz) For Dennis Seidenberg, finding a long term deal wasn’t easy for most of his career. After debuting with the Flyers in the 2002-2003 season, Seidenberg never played more than three years with an NHL team. Two midseason trades saw the German defender eventually land as a free agent looking for a contract when training camp opened...

Ty Anderson: Extension a win-win for Seidenberg, Bruins

In the summer of 2009, defensemen Dennis Seidenberg’s first dip into the unpredictable waters of unrestricted free agency didn’t necessarily go his way. Not at all, in fact. A standout on the Carolina Hurricanes’ improbable run to the 2009 Eastern Conference Finals -- stunning Boston in seven games in round two -- the German-born blue-liner hit the open market...

Everything clicking for Bruins in 4-1 win over Red Wings

Life is pretty good for the Bruins right now. Through two games on the new season three of the four forward lines have scored. The power play dormant for years is showing signs it might be a real weapon. A first-round draft pick given up as a bust in many observers’ minds appears to be coming around. The third line an Achilles’ heel the last two years is playing as well as any...

Shorthanded Goals by Patrice Bergeron, Chris Kelly Power Bruins Past Lightning in Opener (Video)

The Bruins spent a lot of time in the penalty box Thursday night, but they were bailed out by some stellar penalty killing. Two of Boston’s goals in a 3-1 victory over Tampa Bay were of the shorthanded variety — Chris Kelly‘s coming on a penalty shot — and the Lightning were unsuccessful on all five of their power-play opportunities. Patrice Bergeron added the second shorthanded...

Soderberg absent from practice but 'getting closer'

Forward Carl Soderberg was the only Bruins player missing from Friday's practice at the TD Garden a day after defeating the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-1 in their season-opener. Soderberg is recovering from an ankle injury and was replaced by Jordan Caron in the lineup on Thursday night.

The Detroit Red Wings Handed First Loss of Season, 4-1 to Bruins

Boston Bruins vs Detroit Red Wings Red Wings 1 Bruins 4FINAL     The Detroit Red Wings drop the game in horrendous fashion to the Boston Bruins 4-1, and fall to 2-1 on the season now. Unfortunately, this was just about as much of, if not more than, a lackluster performance by the Red Wings as much of last night was. They came out...
