There’s a reason why sports fans watch games until the bitter end- because sometimes that end isn’t so bitter. Ottawa came close to making it a happy ending in Toronto as they narrowly lost the game 6-5, with every goal coming in the third and last period. As they say, it’s better to come late to the party than never. The first two periods looked like a wash for Ottawa. The team was running scared, often confused in their own end, and Gonchar is playing like he’s 6 days away from retirement- his compete level is all but gone. Toronto had them scrambling and they feasted on simple errors. Craig Anderson looked like anything but a steady hand in goal and he was pulled after two listless periods. It didn’t look promising when Alex Auld came in to replace Anderson, but thankfully, the team generated some offense- and some good offense. Alfredsson looks better than new after having surgery in the off season and he got a beauty of a short handed goal on Reimer that nearly took his head of...
