Marian Hossa scored a power-play goal just 52 seconds into overtime and the streaking Chicago Blackhawks swept the season series against the Nashville Predators for the first time with a 5-4 victory Friday night.
With Rich Clune in the penalty box serving a four-minute minor for high sticking, Patrick Kane sent a pass across the ice to Hossa, who one-timed it past Pekka Rinne for his 17th goal of the season.
Kane, Michal Handzus, Duncan Keith and Brandon Saad also scored for the NHL-best Blackhawks, who have won seven in a row.
Slumping Nashville has dropped eight in a row and 11 of 12 overall. Matt Halischuk had two goals and Kevin Henderson scored in his first NHL game, but the Predators still lost to the Blackhawks for the fourth time this month and the sixth consecutive occasion dating to last season.
Chicago and Nashville were tied at 2 after the first period, and exchanged goals again in the second. Kane gave the Blackhawks the lead when he got a pass from Bryan Bickell and slid the puck between Rinne's legs for his team-best 21st of the season at 9:20, but Halischuk then got his second of the game when he followed his own shot on a breakaway, making it 3-3 with 7:29 left in the period.
Handzus intercepted a pass by Victor Bartley midway through the third and beat Rinne into the top of the goal, giving Chicago the lead once again. It was the second of the season for the veteran center, who is in his second stint with the Blackhawks after he was acquired in a trade with San Jose on April 1.
But the Predators tied it when Bobby Butler rushed in for a rebound score with 3 1/2 minutes remaining, beating Corey Crawford high into the net.
The dramatic finish came after a crazy first period that featured a pair of goals for each team.
Keith's third of the season and first in 14 games put Chicago in front. It also was the first power-play goal for the Blackhawks since March 29 against Anaheim, snapping a string of 20 unsuccessful chances over nine games.
The Predators responded with a pair of rebound scores. First, Halischuk poked the puck through Crawford's legs to tie it at 1 at 6:31. Then Butler drove to the net and Henderson slammed it home in a scrum in front of the goal.
Nashville's lead didn't last very long, with Saad tying it at 2 with his 10th of the season at 13:36. Saad, a contender for the Calder Trophy awarded to the NHL's top rookie, has seven goals and 15 assists in his last 24 games.

It's not clear whether Corey...

The race for the Central Division is long over, and the West has been won. The Presidents' Trophy is still out there, and the Chicago Blackhawks look ready to grab that one as well.
If they can pick up a few more timely goals on the power play, this could be only the beginning.

Let me caveat this blog with the followingâI've always been a Ray Emery fan.
When I was spending a lot of time in Canada from 2003-2006, I saw Emery play and win a lot of games for the Senators, including a run to the 2006 Stanley Cup Finals.
When the Hawks signed him in the summer of 2011, injured hip and all, thought it was a smart move. And...
With only eight days remaining in the Nashville Predators' 2012-13 season, they head to Chi-town to take on the Chicago Blackhawks. Nashville is 15-21-8 with 38 points and 14th in the Western Conference. Western Conference champions Blackhawks are 33-5-4 with 70 points and 1st in the Western Conference. Puck drops at 7:39pm CT.
Phoenix Coyotes defenseman Rostislav Klesla went to dump the puck in to get a line change when he got a very nice bounce. The puck bounced about five feet in front of Chicago Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford and skipped right over his shoulder. The 100 foot goal tied the game at one and changed the momentum of the game completely. The Coyotes went on to win 3-2 in a shootout...
The Predators have recalled forward Kevin Henderson, instead of Austin Watson, for their Friday game against the Blackhawks. It will be Henderson's first game in the NHL.
The 6'0, 210 pound Left Winger has been with the Admirals for two seasons. He made his pro debut in with the Sharks AHL affiliate in Worcester. This year Henderson has 16 goals and 11 assits with...
CHICAGO (AP) -- Mikkel Boedker and David Schlemko scored shootout goals to lift Phoenix to a 3-2 victory over Chicago on Saturday night, snapping the Coyotes' three-game losing streak and preserving their fading playoff hopes.
Schlemko beat Corey Crawford with a high forehand shot for the deciding score in the third round of the tiebreaker to end the Blackhawks' seven-game...

Nashville comes in to the UC tonight losers of seven straight and out of the playoff picture for this season. So while the Preds have nothing to play for (except, in some cases, jobs next season), they have nothing really to lose...
A little over a week ago I picked Shea Weber of the Nashville Predators as the top defenceman so far this season. He is a very talented defenceman who had come into form after a slow start and was moving up into the top scoring defencemen this season while maintaining his top defensive play in a tough situation. Since that time Weber has gone -4 with no points scored. When...

Hey, look! It's the Blackhawk power play!
No need to adjust your sets at home. The Hawks did in fact go 2 for 3 on the power play last night, en route to a 5-4 OT win over the Predators at the UC.
It wasn't the prettiest game, although it was decided by one of the prettier goals of the year, a Marian Hossa one-timer from the right circle off...
