The Chicago Blackhawks assigned defenseman Wyatt Kaiser to the Rockford IceHogs on Monday. The 21-year-old played well in his most recent NHL stint, but he'll rejoin the AHL club as the Calder Cup Playoffs approach and veteran defenseman Connor Murphy nears a return.

Wyatt Kaiser's Season

Kaiser began the season with the Blackhawks but received a demotion to Rockford in December. The Minnesota native posted 15 points (three goals, 12 assists) in a 31-game stretch with the IceHogs before rejoining the Blackhawks in mid-March.

Since returning to Chicago, Kaiser's game has looked much more poised. He has seven assists in 32 NHL games this season, with three of those helpers coming during his recent nine-game stretch. Now, he'll rejoin the IceHogs as they ramp up for the playoffs.

Connor Murphy's Impending Return

Murphy hasn't played since Jan. 13 as a groin injury resulted in a trip to injured reserve. As months passed without an update, it previously appeared Murphy might not return this season.

However, he rejoined practice last week and said he was eyeing a return during the Blackhawks' final five games. With Kaiser heading to Rockford, Murphy appears on track to return Wednesday when the Blackhawks visit the St. Louis Blues.
