The Blackhawks now have their 6 defensemen as they signed Jordan Hendry to a one year deal worth $600,000. Hendry had originally planned to be the Blackhawks’ seventh defenseman last year but due to injuries he was thrust into the starting role. He played in 43 regular season games and 15 playoff games, posting 8 points and a +5 in the regular season and was scoreless and a -4 in the playoffs before ultimately being benched in favor of Nick Boynton. With his experience gained from last year it’s almost certain that he will be the sixth defenseman at the start of the season. This signing now lets the Blackhawks go out and get their seventh defenseman since that’s how many they plan on carrying. They will either go into free agency and sign someone or use someone within the organization. If from within the organization it will likely either be Shawn Lalonde or Nick Leddy.
