Blair Betts Claimed by Montreal, Walker Clears Waivers When the Flyers placed Blair Betts on waivers yesterday, there was little doubt that he would be claimed by a team needing a penalty killer.
The Montreal Canadiens cashed in on that need today.
The 31-year-old center played his role well in his years with the Flyers, but their youth movement and new look sent him packing.
Head Coach Peter Laviolette took this time to praise Betts for the work he put in for the orange and black, saying, “He’s a professional in every sense of the word. He’s done a lot for the organization, so I was happy to see he got picked up and gets an opportunity.”
This isn’t an enormous shake-up, however, as most expected Betts to be claimed and a slight roster adjustment to be made. The Flyers will most likely slide Max Talbot over to center in the 4th line and have Andreas Nodl and Zac Rinaldo as the other forwards.
There was some good news for the Flyers today, as camp standout Matt Walker has cleared waivers and is expected to play tomorrow night in Boston. Walker is projected to play alongside veteran defenseman Braydon Coburn on the third defensive pair.
With Betts now gone, and Schenn and others sent to the Phantoms, the Flyers lines (and 23-man roster) will most likely look like they did in practice today:
LW- J. van Riemsdyk C-Claude Giroux RW- Jaromir Jagr
LW- Jakub Voracek C- Danny Briere RW- Wayne Simmonds
LW- Scott Hartnell C- Sean Couturier RW- Matt Read
LW: Zac Rinaldo C- Max Talbot RW Andreas Nodl
