This week, Brian O'Reilly, father of Colorado Avalanche holdout Ryan O'Reilly, wrote a lengthy e-mail to the Denver Post explaining why his son has chosen not to re-sign with the club.  Some entertaining excerpts: If my son was getting 95 in math we wouldn’t ask him to get 65 so the rest of the students in the classroom could feel better about themselves. Many parents have stories about their kids excelling in certain areas but they are asked to tone it down because you’re making the other kids not look as good or feels good about themselves. Colorado Avalanche center Matt Duchene received a gift from an NHL linesman with a horrendous blown call that allowed him to score a goal during the second period of Monday's game against the Nashville Predators. Matt Duchene scores bizarre goal where he appears to be offsides

This is easily one of the most bizarre goals that has happened so far this year.  Colorado Avalanche forward Matt Duchene entered the zone about a foot ahead of this dump in, and seemed surprised when the whistle never blew to declare him offsides.  Duchene then corralled the puck and fired it past Nashville Predators goalie Chris Mason to give the Avs a 3-1 lead.  Obviously Nashville...

Linesman misses offside call, results in goal

Sometimes in sports, the worst officiating calls are the ones that aren’t even made. That was the case Monday in Colorado where the Avalanche and Predators got together for a little holiday matinee hockey. The two clubs faced off in Denver in what ended up being a wild affair, with the Avs coming away with a 6-5 win. They were certainly helped by an egregious non-call, however...

Mark Olver steam rolls Vladimir Tarasenko

What a hit by former Northern Michigan Wildcat and current Avalanche forward Mark Olver on Blues forward Vladimir Tarasenko. From the looks of it, it appears that Tarasenko is knocked a little woozy. There was no penalty called on the play.
