COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Jarome Iginla scored Calgary's only goal in regulation and then had the only score in the shootout to give the Flames a 2-1 victory over Columbus on Tuesday night and extend the Blue Jackets' losing streak to six games.
Iginla, who scored in the third period to tie it 1-1, went first for the Flames in the shootout after Mark Letestu failed to score. The perennial All-Star faked once, then twice, to get Steve Mason down on the ice and then slipped the puck past him on the stick side.
Miikka Kiprusoff, who had 27 saves through overtime, then denied Rick Nash with a poke-check before James Wisniewski's wrister clanged off the right post.
Derick Brassard scored for the Blue Jackets in the second period. Mason made 25 saves.
It was another late failure for the Blue Jackets, the worst closers in the NHL. They have lost seven games in which they led going into the third period.
After a scoreless first period, the Blue Jackets took a 1-0 lead at 12:02 of the second -- seconds after the end of a power play. Rookie Ryan Johansen put a hard, heavy shot on Kiprusoff, who blocked it. Letestu got to the rebound and fed the puck to Brassard at the right dot for a wrist shot that found an opening between the goalie and the near post. It was Brassard's fourth goal.
Iginla scored 3:06 into the third period. He took a pass from Olli Jokinen that was in his skates and difficult to control. The Flames captain skated backward past the goal line as he corralled the puck and slid it under the Mason's pad for his 14th goal.
Both teams had prime scoring chances after the tying goal.
Mason made a stop on Lee Stempniak and another on T.J. Brodie in the final seconds of regulation.
In overtime, seconds after Iginla was leveled on an open-ice hit by R.J. Umberger, Nash's hard wrister from the high slot was just wide.
As the final seconds ticked off in overtime, the Flames ended up with a 3-on-2 break. Blake Comeau passed the puck to Jay Bouwmeester for a shot, and Curtis Glencross was at the doorstep awaiting a rebound. Mason denied him to preserve the tie.
NOTES: Columbus RW Derek Dorsett appeared to catch a high stick to the chin from Jokinen late in the second period. He returned in the third. ... Several milestones remain close for the Flames: C Brendan Morrison needs a goal for 200 and a point for 600; Brent Sutter needs two wins for 100 as Calgary coach, and Jokinen is three games shy of 1,000. ... It was the second of a season-high, seven-game road trip for the Flames while their home arena hosts the World Junior Hockey Championship. ... Columbus G Curtis Sanford, who had beaten Calgary twice this season, was "banged up" and sat out.
