Not so long ago, the Columbus Blue Jackets had the worst record in the NHL, just as they did last season.
Then goalie Sergei Bobrovsky began blocking every shot that came close to him and the Blue Jackets started pushing back against teams that had been dominating them.
Now they're on a franchise-record nine-game points streak and shockingly find themselves within range of a playoff spot as the condensed season winds down.
Through Thursday's action, the Blue Jackets had 26 points and were just four points out a tie for fifth place in the Western Conference - which they are playing in for the final time before a much anticipated and long awaited jump to the East next season.
A year of transition has suddenly become a season of hope.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have been playing very well lately and even took the league-best Chicago Blackhawks to a shootout on Thursday night. But, in order to get there, Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky had to make this awesome last-ditch effort stick save. Now Chicago Blackhawks forward Dave Bolland should have lifted the puck, but it was still a great effort by Bobrovsky...
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Sergei Bobrovsky made 39 saves in regulation and overtime, then two more in the shootout to finish with his second career shutout -- both coming in the last week -- to lift surging Columbus to a 1-0 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday night, extending the Blue Jackets' franchise record point streak to 10 games.

Are the Columbus Blue Jackets for real?
Lost in the Chicago Blackhawks’ incredible, record-setting 21-0-3 start to their season was the recent surge of the Columbus Blue Jackets who have reeled off five consecutive victories as well as are riding a nine-game consecutive point streak (5-0-4) to improve to 10-12-6, thus escaping the National Hockey League’s (NHL’s) basement which...
Last week, legendary Boston University coach Jack Parker announced he will be retiring at the end of this season, his 40th as head coach of the program. In that time, he has amassed 894 wins, won three NCAA titles, and sent 66 players to the NHL. One of those players is Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Adrian Aucoin, who played at BU for only one season, 1991-92, before turning pro...
The Columbus Blue Jackets continued on their hot streak thanks to the man they call Bob.

It would be nice if the Coyotes could roll into Columbus and count on a win against the perennially impotent Blue Jackets. But before back-to-back 2-1 shootout losses to likely division champs Vancouver and Chicago, Columbus had won five straight, and the Jackets have now earned 12 of their last 14 possible points.
Thats not good news for a club still looking to establish a road...

I’m pretty sure the shootout was created specifically for guys like Patrick Kane and Pavel Datsyuk. There’s not a whole lot a goalie can do on this, even though Kane lost control of the puck, he still dangled Bobrovsky. Bobrovsky has been playing really well for the past month, but he didn’t have a chance to stop Kane. The goal gave the Blackhawks another win in a shootout...
After three days off, it took 65 minutes and a shootout for the Blackhawks to get back in the win column on Thursday night. Blackhawks did win in the SO 2-1 but 'Bob' remained hot, stopping 39 shots.
