When the Blue Jackets signed winger Jeff Carter this past offseason, Columbus fans had plenty of reason to be excited. Carter was supposed to give them a perennial 30-goal scorer to play alongside Rick Nash and anchor one of the better lines in hockey for years to come. The marriage lasted only 39 games, with Carter becoming a malcontent and forcing his way out of town. Eventually, the Blue Jackets brought in defenseman Jack Johnson to overtake the No. 7 jersey Carter had vacated. On Thursday, the Blue Jackets announced a plan to rescue fans from the Carter jerseys they purchased this season. As far as marketing ideas go, this is pretty top of the line. Columbus could just as easily capitalize on the situation by rendering Carter jerseys useless, which would in turn inspire fans to buy new gear. They made a mistake in signing Carter, and this is the closest a team can come to fixing that mistake for the fans. H/T Puck Daddy

Jacket fans boo Carter, then go home happy

In one sense, the Blue Jackets wanted to forget Jeff Carter's 39-game career in Columbus. Fans were welcomed, free of charge, to have the No. 7 sweaters stripped off Carter's last name and replaced with the club's new No. 7, defenseman Jack Johnson. But in another sense, fans in Columbus couldn't wait to give Carter a rude welcome back to Nationwide Arena on Thursday...

Blue Jackets help fans replace old Jeff Carter jerseys

It's nice to finally be able to talk about a positive story coming out of Columbus. Jack Johnson’s Play Rubbing Off On The Blue Jackets

from Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch, Johnson is no Jeremy Lin. He plays for a last-place team in Columbus. David Letterman’s people are not on line 2. But there is no denying the minor mania that has followed his arrival after he was acquired from the Los Angeles Kings last month for center Jeff Carter. On Thursday, when Johnson got the winning goal against Carter and...
