Found February 02, 2013 on Nightmare on Helm Street:
Great effort early and late resulted in a 5-3 victory for the Red Wings. If Detroit had lost this game, especially if they lost bad, the narrative would be that they are officially finished and St. Louis/Chicago were the new kings of the division. Like Franklin said in his outstanding gust post last night, Hank would have none of it. More after the jump: I'll never forget that empty netter by Hank. I know it's just a regular season game, but how many guys in the NHL put in that kind of effort to score there? Most would have been interfered with by Oshie, looked at the ref, tossed up his hands and demanded justice. Zetterberg claims his own justice. Outside of a bad penalty by Emmerton, the fourth line had another great night. Seems that none of those guys can finish, but they sure can finish checks. I don't remember if Emmerton hit people last year like he does this year. I think a lot of that has to do with Tootoo inspiring his linemates. They see him knoc...

Detroit Red Wings’ Brendan Smith a Nice Surprise on Struggling Blue Line

Recently I wrote that it is Niklas Kronwall’s time to shine now that Nick Lidstrom has hung up the skates, but a long with Kronwall, a younger Red Wings blue liner is coming into his own a little quicker than expected. Brendan Smith, the highly touted Wisconsin Badger star, got his feet wet briefly last season with the Red Wings, but were not able to see a lot. Back in college...

The Wings will play 13 more times over the course of February's final 24 days, with 4 games over the course of 6 nights scheduled for this upcoming week and next weekend, so the Wings rather...

Detroit Red Wings finally getting well

Backes levels former teammate Huskins

St. Louis Blues center David Backes is known as a physical player across the league. A player that plays the game the right way with tenacity, grit and aggression. Backes, the Blues' captain and top-line centerman, played a physical game against the Detroit Red Wings on Friday night in a 5-3 loss on the road. Unfortunately, the refs thought Backes may have been too physical...

The Blues' four-game winning streak was snapped. Zetterberg scored the first two goals and set up Jonathan Ericsson's tying goal early in the third period. Detroit...

Zetterberg - Leading Like Lidstrom

Chris note: Twig will likely have a reflection on the game as a whole tomorrow morning, but Franklin has another guest post for us on the #1 star of the night, Henrik Zetterberg.  By Franklin Steele:  Henrik Zetterberg was raised for this. At least since he became a Detroit Red Wing.  I can't speak as to what kind of childhood Z had, but I'd assume it was...

After getting taken to the whipping post by the Blues on opening night, 6-0, DET will be looking for a much better effort.  The Wings aren't alone though, STL are crushing it right now, and it is easy to see why:  3.86 G/G (3),  2.00 GA/G (3), 2.33 5-5 F/A (2),  34.6%PP (2), and 20.3 SA/G (1).   Babcock said of the opening game:  "We weren't very competitive...

Detroit vs. Columbus - Pre-Game Thoughts

Guest post by Franklin Steele:  I'm not a super-picky fan of the Detroit Red Wings. A victory is a victory, and points are points. That doesn't mean there aren't a few things I'd really like to see happen tonight against the Columbus Blue Jackets.   For starters, I want to see another Jordin Tootoo fight. I don't like to make guarantees or predictions...

Red Wings-Blues wrap-up and Wings-Blue Jackets set-up: ‘best players’ lead new-look Wings

The Detroit Red Wings took a very short, 27-minute flight to Columbus to prepare for tonight's game against the Blue Jackets (7 PM on FSD, FS Ohio, 97.1 FM) a world away from the team that had its collective ass handed to it on opening night, courtesy of the St. Louis Blues. The Wings' 5-3 victory on Friday night was an identity-defining one and then some. The Wings definitely...
